I'm assuming she is a she but I'm just putting the pics out to get opinions, there has been no crowing. "She" is one of 3 Introduced to my tiny flock of 2. In the pic of the 2 together she is on the left. Thank you!
Thank you for your response, my husband is on the fire Dept in town so there will be no heat lamp! I will need to add some extra shavings and hope for the best. I really don't want to add chickens this time a year. I do appreciate your advice!
Thank you, I don't sell the eggs so I'm not looking to find out why she died. I'm more concerned about the existing 2 keep each other warm through the winter. Will there be enough body heat in the coop. We do not heat our coop. I will keep an eye on them after work to see what's going on!
We lost a chicken (the head hen) to a bobcat a month ago, since then we have noticed 2 of 3 of our hens are losing the feathers at the back of their necks. Woke up this morning to one of them dead in the coop. Not sure if it is related or not. I will check for lice/mites after work, but I'm...
No. This run is temporary. We were running out of time last night and I wanted my girls to have a run for the week. Won't be able to do any more major work till the weekend. Is see plenty if runs that aren't walk in height, what are the advantages of having one that is?
The long weekend worked to our advantage and the coop was done enough and safe enough to put the girls in! We still need to shingle the roof and revamp the run, add a roof to it for the bad weather. But for now it is safe!
Ok I'm thinking maybe buying a second hand coop might be best. I see everything saying how much space you need per chicken but how much indoor space vs outdoor space is needed? Thx.
I can choose from the following! Which would be the hardiest (NH winter's) and best egg later!
Red Sexlink
Black Sexlink
Ameraucana (spelling)
Silver Wyandotte
Golden Wyandotte
Plymouth barred rock
Thank you!
I thought the last time around with chickens I was told not to put the window behind the roost, but I cannot remember why! Hoping someone will answer for us both!!
We are building our coop this weekend, any advice on how to do it so it looks nice, withstand NH winter's, but not break the bank or take forever??? It's asking alot I know! We aren't new to chicken owning, but we used our shed to house them preciously and that won't work this time around. (I...
