She has been to the vet- they both have. He was actually really good, gave her a vitamin drench as she is definitely underweight compared to her partner. He doesn’t think it’s respiratory, gave her a thorough check over, and has given me a blanket antibiotic, plus treatment for coccidiosis once...
I bought a pair of peafowl at auction on Sunday, brought them home and quarantined them. It is an area that the chooks have free ranged before, but they aren’t there now.
This morning I noticed one of them was quiet and a little hunched, but I had to go out for the day and these are my first...
For info, they all free range in the day. I feed layers/growers mash.
I’m in Aus and it has been pretty hot lately, they have a fan and they have plenty of deep shade. I also ice the water.
They get treats, the usual- watermelon, lettuce, mealworms, peelings, and then some table scraps...
I have had the worst couple of weeks with my chickens. This is going to be a long post...
A couple of weeks ago, one of my 3 month old Langshans went lame. I separated him, he quickly deteriorated and died overnight. I started him on vitamins, electrolytes, and antibiotics. His symptoms were...
poor little boy died today, I thought I was seeing some improvement because he was drinking a little by himself. He was still very sleepy and shivering though- I couldn’t feel any air under the skin,my husband is a doctor so he gave him a good check over too. Anyway I came in to check him later...
Some recent pics as we have just given him more water with the syringe. He isn’t voluntarily drinking from the bowl of fresh or medicated unless I dunk his beak in. He has eaten some watermelon, but only a little. He is mostly sleeping- even in between syringed mouthfuls, sometimes I had to give...
Yes he’s a sweetie, he’s called Kronk because he isn’t the brightest 😂. He has always been last into the coop and often has to be encouraged to go to bed! He also developed his feathers way later than the others. I don’t have any idea where these babies came from- I only bought them because no...
I tested this this morning, he did jerk awake at one point around his “ankle” but I couldn’t replicate it. He seemed to rather enjoy the massage the rest of the time.
The 5mls I syringed in to his mouth had vitamins and electrolytes in. He resisted most times but also just sat with his eyes closed and didn’t react at all at times. He isn’t usually very tame so this is odd behaviour
I have that cat carry box! I could make that one- need to get a little water pot to hang within reach though. I can do that later today, thanks.
Multi vit and electrolytes pic attached
Here he is now- a brief spell of eating like mad, and now just sitting again. He has drunk a tiny amount only.
They are in an ark which I move to a new spot every other day. Fed on growers mash, occasionally some lettuce, but I don’t feed scraps to the babies.
I think about 2 months- I got them from an auction far too young (still fluffy) on an extremely hot day. I lost one a few days later, but all has been well since then
