I know she's in the Orpington family but she is twice as large as the other hens (even larger than my chocolate Orp roo) and very meek.
The other hens bully her. 😞
She is so sweet.
Three of the chicks just got beak out and did not get through the membrane. One that did get through appeared to get crushed after zipping but before getting out of bottom half of shell. I think she might have done that.
We brought mama inside and put her in cage to break her brooding... any...
I have a chick, under broody hen that seems to be having trouble hatching. Weve had 5 out of the 6 chicks die... first one lived two days after that the other four have died while hatching.
I dont know what to do. I have not assisted at this point other than to breath hot air near beak to see...
We had a hen go broody on 6 eggs. We decided to let her hatch them. We are new to the chicken world. Our girls are a year & a half old.
First chick got out the shell but a nickle sized piece stuck on her back (mama got it off).
She lived two days. We weren't sure wheather to take her innside...
Thank you. I am giving her electrolytes (she eats & drinks when shes in warm bath). I have her in a cage set up in a dark humid (we ran a hot shower) bathroom because I read that can be helpful.
We have calcium chips for our well but we aren't sure if thats okay to give her.
I gave her one half or close to it of a 1,000mg tums tablet crushed in water.
I believe I have egg bound orpington. She cant fly up to the roost anymore. She is close to year and half old. She is lethargic, hasnt laid (at least since the day vefore yesterday).
We have tried warm bath with epsom salts, cooking oil on vent and tums crushed given orally with syringe.
Here...
First time chicken mama in South La (not far from Nola/Ms line).
Two of my hens (I have 16 hens and two roos) are missing feathers from their back. One, Bella, has been missing them for over a month (silver & amber easter egger) and another, Big Mama, (large orpington) just started to loose the...
I live in SE Louisiana.
Also, I went to a local place last Friday to get feed and they had a lical mix. I had decided to wait and keep feeding all of them grower crumbles until i found out more about laying pellets. I opened the bag (50lbs which helper put in my trunk) just two days ago. I went...
I'm a new chicken mama. Regardless of how it happened I have 21 chickens 😳 there are 11 that are 18 weeks old (9 hens and 2 roos) and 10 are almost 11 weeks old.
They all freerange most of the day but grower crumbles are always available (they still eat quite a bit of it, although the older...
Im just concerned with the expense.. although I give them scratch and with foraging im hopeful their consumption will go down. Should I keep the feed out all the time or just twice a day (as I read somewhere)?
I named #7 Farah (as in Farah Faucett) because she is so beautiful.
#1 is Cali the wind blew as I took that pic.. i didnt know if it would be helpful but I had hoped it would because it was such a great pic..
