Interesting! Thanks so much! What is MG? There was another time I switched to this feed. I was just getting some feed from a local supplier, not organic or anything and everything was fine. When I switched to the Kalmbach I thought I noticed a decline in eggs so I switched back. I didn’t know...
Thanks so much for the reply! How did you figure it out?? Seems like all the symptoms can basically mean all the things. But I actually had been wondering if she was even laying eggs before the molt happened. I have two barred rocks so I have trouble distinguishing which egg is hers...
I’m having trouble posting a video/pic but will work on adding them after.
Background:
I have a mixed flock. Currently have 3 pullets I got as chicks in May. Over the summer I noticed blood in two of their stools. Treated everyone with Corid for a week and it cleared up. I personally feel like...
I have two barred rock hens on their first molt. They’re my most problematic hens in general. Both of them are molting pretty hard. Whole sections just completely bare. I can see new feathers coming in. No rooster. No hen pecking. They are having excessive diarrhea. Poop that is just basically...

lol yeah. I mean I’d like to think mine are somewhere in between pet and livestock. I live in a neighborhood so if there’s a coyote or raccoon out and about during the day it’s hot off the press news. Hawks are my main predator but, at the moment, I’m just not willing to fully enclose their...
I see a lot of people on this site act like you HAVE to have your run completely sealed and predator proof. And while that’s ideal, it’s not always necessary or realistic. Hawks are my main predator too. I’m putting some string up. 🤷♀️ My coop is secure, they’ll be in there at night and that’s...
My chicks are 7 weeks old, just moved them out to their coop/run a week ago. I’m still using their chick feed and waterer and moving them in and out of the coop morning and night 😅 I have an automatic coop door. My coop is on the smaller side as the weather here is mild (western North Carolina)...
Oh boy, I have a 4x4 coop and 7 birds 😬 My run is quite large so I thought this size would be fine since it’s mostly just for sleeping? My nesting boxes are protruding out so they are not part of the 4x4. I too am trying to come up with a more permanent food and water solution. I’d love to have...
Oh yay! When we first got the chicks I thought she would be the rooster if we had one as she chirped louder and then as her comb was on the larger side and then her coloring seemed lighter I thought “gotta be a rooster!” But her mannerisms and feathers and build were suggesting otherwise!
Full body pics!
I got 7 chicks originally and have two others roosters 100% but this one still has me puzzled. It doesn’t have the thick feathers as my other two roosters and I never see it competing with the other two either 🤷♀️ But wasn’t sure if BR were just different.
My coop is actually under lots of trees and gets full shade until like 3pm. Which is great and all but then it gets blasted by the hot afternoon sun during the hottest part of the day. So it makes it a little hard cause the sun is coming in sideways. But there is still some shade in the run...
