    Whats wrong with my horse?

No his teeth are fine, he lives on private property with just one ather horse who is not showing any other symptoms. Has always been healthy, he has been wormed and is current on all shots. We live in Cincinnati Ohio, it gets pretty cold, but this winter his fur coat was a little weak.

    Whats wrong with my horse?

I have a 34 year old horse named Jack, he is old but has always been in very good health. He is the trouble maker and the leader of the herd, but this past week he has been kinda slow and sluggish. Some other weird things is he seems to be having trouble chewing, and only makes left hand turns...

    Picking up our chicks today!

At 2-3 weeks, yes they will need a heat bulb. You might put them in your garage for a while because it is still so cold. I live in Cincinnati and today it snowed!! So yes they will definitely need a heat bulb, and you should keep them in the garage until they are completely feathered, even then...

    A Couple Newbie Questions

Your chicks do not have to stay inside for the whole 6 weeks in my experience, if and only if, it is warm enough outside, AND you have a good coop which will keep out predators, drafts, and keep the chicks in. I would still use the light. Also you might just bring them inside at night if it gets...

can i feed my chicks eggs?

If thats all you have, I guess you don't have much choice, but I would only feed them cooked egg whites. Mabey some oatmeal too. Good luck!!

    Electric Fence

How much voltage do you think a chicken could take. I'm thinking about just dialing down the amps so the birds feel it, and stay away, but so do the fox/raccoon/everything else

    Electric Fence

    Electric Fence

I wasn't really thinking about electric net so much as a few strands of electric wire. I have seen electric netting, but I was thinking about enclosing a large area(with only an electric wire) and the netting would get pretty expensive for what I want.

    Electric Fence

I love to let my bird out and free range by themselves without a fence(expensive and messy), but more recently I have seen predators coming around. I was just thinking would putting a strand or two a few inches off the ground around a large area keep them out and the chickens in? Could it hurt...

    Dog Pen Conversion?

Put a strand or two of electric wire a few inches above the ground. That's what i would do, simple, and effective!

    dead chickens by small predator

First off i am so sorry for your loss, it can be hard. Most likely it was racoons. They hunt at night and are ruthless. They will stick their paws in through the fence and kill them. If they can get in the coop(which isnt hard for them) they will often destroy every last one of them, often by...

    Alternatives to wood shavings?

I use the deep litter method. I only have to clean it out every few months! I use a mixture of leaves(dry and free) and shredded paper from my office and home.

    ratty looking

Ya. I remember when my were like that! They were pretty ugly, and they acted like teenagers. They didn't really like being around me or me picking them or anything. Don't worry they grow out of it, they will one day be very pretty and nice. Good Luck

can I successfully introduce a 2mo. old chick with 9 month olds?

It should work but it might be a little bit of work'. Just set a place in the coop where you can put her at night until you can feel confortible that they get along. Supervised visits will eventualy do the trick. Good luck

    Tractor Supply Store

First off you need chick supplys. Medicated starter feed, heat lamp, brood box, bedding, water/food dishes... etc what i do to bond with my chicks is to make sure you play with them/hold them many times a day. Let them sit in your lap and play. They do go through the teenage stage but they will...

new chick moves along on belly with feet and wings all over like a swimmer?

I have never heard of this before, i could see how it could make you nervous. There isn't much you can do I guess. Maybe try standing him up and Kinna show him how to do it. Again this has never happened to me so I don't know exactly what to do. sorry, good luck.

Getting a 4 month old Silkie chick, should I keep it in the house?

I think she would be fine outside if you have a heat lamp for her. Congratulations on finding such a beautiful bird.
