I blew out the yolk and white from the large egg in the photo. I was surprised to find that there is another egg in there and am not sure how to get that out without breaking the whole egg open. Anyone ever get an egg inside an egg?
It came from my smallest hen, a golden comet, who usually lays the smallest eggs. Not sure how many yolks, I am letting the insides slowly drain out so I can keep the shell.
Just wondering if it could be moulting time for hens living in New England. I have four hens that are looking kinda beat up and feathers are all around the yard. The hens are also more needy than usual, they seem to be ignoring food and running after me as if they want more food. If they are...
OH, if possible, lightly cover their food with a layer of oyster shell so they will have to dig and eat through the shell to get to the grower feed. Just a trick I learned in the past to get them to at least eat some of the shell.
If you just bought a large bag of grower feed... Don't waste it. Feed it to them with oyster shell. If they don't eat the oyster shell just add layer feed to the grower feed.
Oh, totally, grower feed doesn't, depending on brand, usually have enough calcium for keeping up the laying of hard shelled eggs. You should see a total difference if you even just start giving layer feed.
I've had hens that just all of a sudden started laying lighter brown eggs. I have had hens that just all of a sudden started laying in a different place. I could be wrong but I think it is all normal. It has never become a major problem with my hens at all, they all are still healthy and laying...
Extra calcium will always be good for her. I have found that my hens eat everything but oyster shell bits. They seem to hate oyster shell. They are free range so I have to put layer feed in four places in the yard where they roam...
it took a while for my golden comet to start laying regularly. I thought there was something wrong with her but after all the soft shelled eggs and the eggs with blood she is finally laying normal eggs. It took about a month and a half after she first layed before the regular eggs started being...
Hahaha, my hen went broody. I haven't had too much experience with broody hens but I have to say that my hen really seems to have turned into the devil. I think I need to borrow someone's hockey padding for protection to get her off of the unfertilized eggs Seems like a weird time for a hen to...
