When I went out to gather eggs today my EE is bleeding from around her vent. It's hard to tell where it is coming from though she obviously layed her egg after it happened as there was a little blood on the shell. She is at the bottom of the pecking order and we have had issues with the other...
with my smaller eggs, I generally bring them to a hard boil for 5 minutes. Then I take them off the heat and let them sit for 5 more before adding ice to the pot.
Next Saturday we are moving from Colorado to Kansas. It's about a 500 mile drive. Our plan is to close the coop up (with the chickens inside), load it on trailer, and take them with us. If anyone has ever done this before, I am wondering how the chickens will react and what we can expect. They...
I don't have sex links but a couple of my girls started laying at 17 weeks of age. I have RIR, BR, Buff Orp, and Blask Australorps. I'm not positive who was laying first but my best guess is the RIR. I would catch one in the nesting box every morning.
We just had our first egg Saturday and it was so exciting. I am pretty sure it is my EE laying, as she is a little bit older than the rest of the girls. Everyone of her eggs has been in a nesting box too! I think they just know.
This is the first time I've ever had chickens and we have been anxiously awaiting eggs. My 20 week old EE has just started laying. We have gotten 1 egg everyday this week until today. After inspecting the nesting boxes I discovered there had been an egg. There was just a broken membrane and yolk...
My chickens are all about 10 weeks old. They are out in the coop and get out into their run everyday. There is a lot of little gravel and rocks in their run, but no grass. If I throw down some scratch or treats will they still need grit or is the gravel enough? It is very small

I saw your post. That's what got me to wondering. I noticed how similar their coloring was and then found some other post saying the lighter one tend to be rooster.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us!
After looking through some of these gender post, I am worried that one of my EE's might be a roo. Is it true that white and black EE's are almost always boys? I know you can't see the legs in the pictures but they are a little green and pretty thick but my EE's are 2 weeks older than the rest of...
OK, I kept her inside over night. Yesterday gave her vitamins and yogurt and encouraged her to drink lots of water. Today she is up hopping around and making a ton of noise. I get the impression that she is not happy to be separated from the rest of the flock. I will keep her inside for at least...
Glad I found this. I tried giving my chickens some yogurt and they too just eyed is suspiciously. I'll try mixing in some starter and see if that helps. Thanks!
