Will my canary abandon her chicks?

There are a few things for future that may help, if all hatch put a dummy egg in their, it can help keep the mom from squishing the babies accidently as some hens sit real tight. Use an open nest, that is what canaries are used to, it is possible she isn't going into the next because she is...

    Call Ducks

My experience is similar to the others that I asked about this who have been hatching for many years, and that is the issues are with hatching, it seems the small bills make it harder for them to hatch out. the pet quality ones I hatched out my first year that didn't have small bills were...

    Converting building to aviary

Javas are indeed illegal in several states, didn't know that KY was one of them. Lovebirds can be noisy as well so that is one of the reasons I no longer have any. When you decide on what you want I know several people in your area that should be able to help you get what you want.

    Converting building to aviary

If you do keep drafts out and away from anything that will get them wet you can put anything in there. I have several outdoor aviaries and here is a list of what I have kept or do keep outside here in the NW, I would put a single heat lamp in each aviary as a safety measure. Several would...

What gender is this year old Cockatiel?

I need to catch up with one of the people that has them so I will see if I can get over to his place, the other near me sold out and retired last year, of course I found out after much of her stock was gone.

What gender is this year old Cockatiel?

Have you had a chance to see some of the male pearls that retain the pearling? beautiful birds, basically the nice pearling of a hen combined with the brightness of a male, it appears to run in a few lines, I know several in NCS have some of these lines.

    Sick Of Foam Incubators...

I have about a dozen accurite thermometers, the ones with the probe, I put the probe through the vent hole. I checked all with a mercury thermometer, one was like 2 degrees off from the others, the rest run within 1 degree. I used the styrofoam incubators and hatched in my garage one year 15-20...

57 potential Blue Laced Red Wyandotte babies!!!!

There are many BLRW breeders around you, last year there were many advertising on CL, I hatched out several and gave away the extras, if you go to the Monroe show in a few weeks you will probably meet some breeders there.

    Incubator Choices

Check CL and do a search for "incubator", you might be surprised at what comes up, or not... but you should be able to find a low cost one, if you are in the PACNW area close to me I could loan you one.

    colour feeding finches

Maybe that is the issue with some breeders that canthaxanthin can cause issues, I will have to ask next time I talk to some colorbred breeders. FYI the OP never mentioned pet finches, or pet canaries in the post, while some may assume they are talking about pet birds I can't tell you the...

    colour feeding finches

I contact a couple people that do work with Norwich, it appears there is a split in those that breed them, some do not colorfeed and some do, it is evidently more popular with those that have varigated, so it is done by some and not done by some and people

Snowy Call Ducks or another breed?

maybe they are just in the awkward growing stage? the new hatch pictures are cute and make me hope for lots of eggs this spring.

    colour feeding finches

The short answer to the OP is yes any canary can be colorfed, and a person can do anything they want with a pet canary. While I myself do not breed yorkshires or Norwich the people I know that do don't colorfeed and do quite well at shows, I have type myself. Do you breed and show canaries...

    colour feeding finches

Just because there are articles on it doesn't mean it is still done, I go to shows all the time and NONE repeat NONE of the type breeders colorfeed and yes that includes the Norwich and Yorkshire. There are also an article on a study from several years ago where they bred tiels in a 18" x 18"...

    colour feeding finches

Lizard canaries are not too common so I can't comment on those but Norwich and Yorkshire and other types are not colorfed if you want to show them, you can colorfeed any canary but I have never met a reputable breeder that would encourage colorfeeding a type bird.
