You have 2 boys and a girl in that pic. Boys are lighter. Confusion comes in because of the two different varieties, light and dark. And then there are the flame Jaers too. I don't know what they look like as chicks.

That's the wonkiest comb I've ever seen! Eek. Looks like a Leghorn head.

Good to hear too! I also use ACV in all the waterers, all the time. Keeps the algae away and is a health tonic. We just came off a week-long heatwave, heat indexes in the 90-100's, and I didn't lose a single bird, even chicks. I think the ACV helps with stress too. Though apparently its not...

I was a little scared after Parkmule's ordeal. I just had to semi-nurse a lone WH duckling along, it seemed a tad peaked. Yogurt + raw milk + save-a-chick electrolytes did the trick. Thank God, its the only one I've got so far and I think its a girl. As far as spare Jaer roos, stew. There's so...

Nice ratio! I have had 1 hen go broody in 3 years. She hatched 1 bantam chick but wasn't the most attentive mom. Have not had the pasty butt problem. The only problem I'm having this year is inability to hatch!

I describe mine as sprightly; not so nervous like Leghorns but really active. A determined Jaer will not be contained in a 6ft fence. Last year I watched one young roo fly from the roof of the coop to the roof of our garage, about 30 feet. And he had to gain altitude to do it. Earlier this year...

Duramax, from what I understand the light color is not bred for in Norway. It does crop up sometimes, like the Flame jaers from Sandhill. I wouldn't keep her with your Jaer program, but maybe she could be a project hen. She is pretty.

Parkmule, sorry I didn't get around to posting about that yet. She hatched 4 from my eggs, lost them by 7 days. I've hatched only 3 so far, 2 males that are doing fine, and a pullet that went to a new home and died a few days later. I don't know what the gal was feeding. I haven't had any...

I think they look nice. Your girl has a big comb, at least bigger than my hens. Their coloring looks good; I notice a little white in the wing tips of the hen, a couple of mine have that too (not sure if that's a fault or not.) I like their type. Your boy is a little leaner looking than my roos...

Those are all excellent traits to breed toward. I prefer that over breeding for certain looks, which happens in all of animal husbandry. His body type looks much like one of my youngsters from last season, who went to be head roo of a flock in CO. I have yet to get a cockeral that is as full...

    Norwegian Jaerhon

Is he a light or a dark? Is the pic showing his colors accurately? He seems light colored to me, but I have darks. I think his body shape looks nice. Probably has too many points on his comb but mine do too. It's kind of hard to know exactly what to breed toward without a good translation of...

I've had them try to crow at 3 weeks. Truly they sound like mice.

Looks like a little lady to me! Boys have white all over their entire heads. Girl on left, boy on right.

Looks girly to me. Do you have the Light or Dark variety? That chick looks a little lighter than the ones i hatch, but that could be the lighting. Congrats!
