Quote: >>>>>>>>>>> Hi, I would wait before giving away that chicken. I just looked up pictures of hens and cockerels for barred rocks, and the rooster comb goes back much farther then yours. I would wait until your either hear a crow or get an egg before finally knowing for sure. Different...

Hi Karen, It is hard to see what is going on under the hen. But, she kicked another blue andalusian shell out, and I have seen a white chick under there, so maybe a light sussex or Jeremy's BW?? Not sure yet. Under her chest, I can see a light sussex egg has pipped. I didn't think to try to...

Personally, I think that one's budget for little excesses (like chickens) seems to expand until it consumes one's free cash flow. Basically, if you can afford it and it is something that is important to you, then you spend the money and enjoy.

Quote: So Jeremy, you recommend the broody hens huh??? I have 3 Silky hens that LOVE to brood & was thinking of slipping some of my "other" eggs under them to see what they would do with them. The BCMs seem so hard to hatch in the incubator I thought maybe they would do a better job. BTW I...

Karen, here are photos of the rooster I mentioned: He is about 3 1/2 months old, so still a juvenile. Foley's website (he was a day old chick from Foley's) says he will take up to 18 months to fully develop, so I expect he will continue to get more beautiful. Also, I was thinking I have...
