Well, it is the first egg that I ever tried to hatch out that was like it. The egg was a bit smaller than the other ones, but not really by much. Still, I think that 12 live ones out of 13 was pretty good for a hatch rate.
Because it never hatched, so I carefully opened up the egg to look. The chick inside had totally filled up the whole egg, and there was no more air pocket left in the egg for it to be able to breathe.
Just an update on my group 1, and group 2 hatches on my Blue Australorp chicks:
Group 1: All 4 that hatched out in that batch are active, and eating and drinking good. It was a 100% hatch rate.
Group 2: 8 out of the 9 eggs hatched out. The 9th one looked like it outgrew the egg, and...
Well, there is another thread going for the October hatch-a-long also. Maybe some have gone over to it?
I haven't taken any pictures of mine, but I candled my Group #2 again last night. Of those 10 eggs, 9 of them showed beginning life in them. I tossed out the 10th egg, as it still looked...
Good luck with your hatch! I have my incubator in a spare bedroom that we use for storage. So, when mine are ready to hatch, I can keep the light on all night if I have to.
My 4 eggs from group #1- are now filling almost 3/4 of the egg now, and I can still see movement in there when I candle them.
My 10 eggs from group #2- I am still not seeing anything interesting in them yet.
It looks like those little basket things work well in the incubator. I bet it keeps the inside of the incubator cleaner. I think I will try that when it's time to take mine out of the turner. I have 3 of those basket things.
Yes, in the first posting on the first page of this thread it said to have either eggs under a hen or in an incubator anytime during the month of October.
