    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

Here's "Daisy," my solo chick from my Veteran's Day hatch - a Silver Laced Wyandotte cockerel. Six weeks old, and he is already fighting with my October-born Silkie cockerel! Very sweet with people, though.

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

That is so interesting! Once, I adopted a rescue cat. She would routinely collect five socks from around the house, cuddle them and purr. The vet told me she had recently had kittens. I am guessing she had five kittens that she was trying to replace, since she would always collect exactly five...

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

Thanks so much for the support!! There is so much difference between having a zero hatch and having one chick. I have one chick! Little Daisy is strong and healthy. I am so glad I assisted, and very grateful for the advice from my BYC pals. 4 week old Cleopatra (a Silkie from the...

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

Thank you so much. It is a big baby! It pushed out and is in the brooder, cheeping and fluffing up. This is the only chick from my eight SLW shipped eggs, and it is extra precious. It must be lonely to be the sole hatchling. I think I will put my smallest of my October-hatched Silkies in...

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

After 26+ hours, with some moving and no peeping, I did intervene with my one surviving shipped egg. I tried to follow the advice given for assisting. There were no blood vessels whatsoever, but the membrane was very tough. It also looks like there is a stringy residue in the lower part of the...

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

I have heard great stories about TJ's fertile eggs hatching big, white, friendly chickens. I got curious and checked out local store, but the don't stock the fertile eggs. Very interested in your hatch!

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

Update! I think my slow-zipping chick was just lonely while I was at work. I started tapping and talking, and that little chick just started pushing hard and breaking the shell. I think it will hatch on its own tonight. I candled the saddle shaped egg, and it has what looks like blood spotting...

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

Thank so much for checking in! Yesterday, I discovered that pip on the underside of the egg and saw the little beak. There was no progress by night. Just now, I see that just a bit more shell has been pushed away, in the middle of the egg. I don't see movement. I think we are past the 26 hour...

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

This is so helpful, and just what I needed to hear. I am looking at the one egg with the bit of shell knocked out in the middle, and I can see that little beak moving... but there is no progress after hours of watching (little stinker!) and I am so anxious. It is really nice to know that it will...
