So I finally decided that the Marsh Daisy eggs have passed the pullet size and ready for the incubator. They have been laying for a couple of months now. But I don't incubate tiny pullet eggs. I wanted these chicks to have the best start in life.
So 18 Marsh Daisy eggs and two Svart Hona...
Since the GFF imports appear to have been a cross of the brown and the wheaten, it seems like a project worth doing as we will need to clean-up the colors, anyways. I am importing another line of Ayam Cemani and it is already giving me a headache. So I don't know if I need that additional...
Yeah the buff color is nice. We could extract it from the Greenfire line with many generations. But I am actually thinking of trying to import them from a well known breeder in the U.K. Right now I can't get him to agree to do the necessary tests (they have to test EVERY bird and it only...
Willow green is very difficult to photograph on my property as the cameras try to oversaturate the green grass. But basically it is not mustard or bright yellow and not blue. The ones with blue legs (culls) will be obvious. The ones with yellow legs will also be obvious. The willow color may...
The Marsh Daisy are getting older.
Notice the blue feet in the bottom picture. This one will not be used for breeding as the feet should be willow green.
Yes, that should be considered a defect and is probably from the White Leghorn that was used in their creation. Also look for blue legs. Blue legs or single combs are considered disqualifies for the breed (at least in the British SOP). So I would cull any that have blue legs or single combs...
I have all my Mash Daisy in a seperate coop. They don't fight at all with each other but I do plan to cull 2 of the 3 cockerels as they have defects that I do not waist to have in my breeding program. Just like with my Ayam Cemani, I plan on culling heavily to try to improve the breed...
I will try. Unfortunately I didn't take enough pictures when they were younger. I just had too many breeds growing up at that time. But now that they are outside it should be easier. I will take new photos over the next few days.
I can't wait until they start to lay. From the body shape, they will be excellent layers. There are some issues that I will need to breed out. For example, the colors are not true. It is believed that the colors were mixed in England as a last ditch effort to keep the breed alive. So lots...
So it was a long wait, but I have my Marsh Daisy chicks, straight from Greenfire. I haven't taken updated pics, but here there are as babies. If you can't tell, I love this breed.
Are you trying to tell me I will finally have health insurance before I have Marsh Daisy chicks? The wait is going to kill me. Probably a good thing my insurance starts January 1st.
Awesome. I can't wait to buy these. I have been waiting for a long time. Jenny tells me that you guys are still working through the pullet eggs. When do you estimate that you will have them for sale?
It looks like Green Fire Farms just started selling chicks yesterday. If I hadn't just received 32 chicks from them, I probably would have ordered some.
Oh well, my Birchen Marans, Bielefelders, Cream Legbars, Partridge Orpingtons, Blue Barnevelders (all from GFF) will have to keep me busy...
