I've only had a few Khaki Campbells, but raised more Welsh Harlequin than I've ever stopped to count at this point. I didn't like the Campbells because they would just start quacking for no reason so much, even when all the other ducks seemed content. Actually I have to say I find my other...

You can call the Holderreads or email them to let them know what you want. They are really nice so don't hesitate. I know people who have gotten the specific WH colors they asked for, although they don't sex their ducklings like some of the hatcheries do.

Quote: Do they go through a phase where they all look like boys? I got mine as adults, but I wouldn't expect the girls to have hoods like that. I have some babies growing up and I would hate to sell them off if they are actually girls. The females often are hooded, and in the teenage phase...

I am going to start selling Welsh Harlequin eggs, it will probably be another week until I get set up for that. I also need to update my profile with my new email, but for now here it is: [email protected]

Quote: Azhenhouse those look like really nice Welsh Harlequin teenagers! Can you see the colors on the wingbars yet? Blue wingbars are silver and bronze are gold. Yours seem to be towards the end of that long phase where their feathering is changing so much its often hard to tell the...

I've always heard really nice things about them. I did talk with her a few years ago, it seems so nice how they are willing to talk with people when they must be so busy. I'm betting their Show Quality is pure for silver because silver is the APA standard.

jeaucamom do you happen to know if the silvers ducklings you are getting are homogenous for the silver gene, meaning no recessive gold? I was breeding a silver Holderread drake last year and was suprised to get some female gold ducklings. I had got the drake third hand so I didn't have a...

Quote: If you mate gold with gold you will get all gold. If you mate silver with silver you will get all silver, except if the drake carries the recessive gold gene, then some of the female ducklings will be gold. You wouldn't know if your silver drake carried the recessive gene until he...

You can get gold and silver ducklings out of the same hen, just like you can have kids with blue and brown eyes. The gold is just a recessive gene that has to be in both parents before it will show up in the offspring.

Big Dreamer maybe you should ask this question in a new thread, more people might see it and your question isn't actually so much about Welsh Harlequin but flock management.

When you put them in with the big ducks you need to be there to supervise a lot at first. Especially if there is swimming water in the area, that could provide an opportunity for drowning if the older ducks get too aggressive with them.

That was a lot of pics Dreamer!! I loved the Holloween bathtub the duckies have! How do you like your little Harlequins? Are they very skittish for you? They look really inquisitive. I was just looking on the Metzer website and he says the Harlequins are the calmest ducks on his farm. That...

Oh wow Wifezilla, you got a gold drake from Tweak? That's the first example of a Silver Drake with a Gold hen producing a gold drake I have heard of!! But we were all theorizing it was possible, it just was so elusive. Must be all those goldfish and extra spoiling they get from you!! For a...

Quote: Chicken eggs look rougher to me than duck eggs. Duck eggs have a smooth, sort of waxy look to them. Should be larger too. If you break them open you will find the shells are much harder than chicken eggs, very different, have you opening them yet?

Quote: Wifezilla, that drake you gave me (Tweak) is still my friendliest duck, and the hen I got from citychicker (same source) is also a sweetie. I just think it had to do with the way she raises her ducks, amazing because she has so many but she just must have a special touch. I am...

Quote: What about getting a half dozen or so eggs shipped to you? Granted, the shipping process can cause a lower the hatch rate, but even if you only get a couple out of the hatch, that will get you started... ... if you are just wanting one or two of various types of birds, it's a good idea...
