    MALLARD THREAD...not rouens, Mallards!

Hey all! Question, my mallard drakes are starting to molt. Is it normal for their green heads to molt?! My beautiful boys are looking quite haggard! Any advise is appreciated!

    MALLARD THREAD...not rouens, Mallards!

It is pretty similar to tag! He'll chase after me.. then I'll turn around and they'll chase back after me. It's so funny! Sometimes his mouth is open, sometimes it is closed. He doesn't ever seem mean.. but they are a little mischievous! Yesterday they finally got the bravery to go all the way...

Got a mallard question.. So my two boys who I got at 6months are finally starting to get used to us! Max let me pet him, they've ventured into the garage, and they come within inches without getting spooked! But Max has started one weird behavior, when Me or my boyfriend walk by him, he lowers...

I wish mine cuddled with me! I didn't have them as ducklings though, I'm hoping within the next few months that will completely trust me! Does his bill ever change colors?

Glad to know it's normal, whenever it rains I come outside the the biggest burrow holes ever in the hay and dirt! They love it.. I've been doing some gardening and making sure to toss the extra worms in their pen :) Here's a picture of my handsome boys Max and Shadow

    MALLARD THREAD...not rouens, Mallards!

Hello! I am a new duck momma to two 7month old drakes.. I know ducks love the rain.. but I get worried. Last night we had torrential downpours, thunder and lightening - and they would not go in their house. The just stand there bobbing around.. is this normal!? I imagine if it was too bad they...

    MALLARD THREAD...not rouens, Mallards!

I can't really tell what's growing in... and since they are still a little human wary - I can't easily pick them up and manhandle them.. The feathers that are currently molting the most seem to be the breast feathers, I believe those are the spotted/striped ones.. when I was watching them...

Since these are my first ducks I'm not really sure about molting schedules, but I have noticed tons of little fluffy feathers around the pen, along with larger breast feathers I've started collecting! Hopefully some I'll get some beautiful wing feathers! How scruffy do they start looking?

Good to know! I'm such a nervous duck mommy! This is their first "mating" season, and with no hens.. I think I'm the next best thing in their eyes! And thank you, their colors are absolutely gorgeous!

Thank you all, they are beautiful brothers, the pictures don't do them justice. They've just started to molt and I've been collecting the prettiest breast feathers! From what I've read on BYC the shaking seems to be normal.. weird, but normal! When we got Shadow his webbing was torn ( I realized...

Hey NathanZee, thanks for writing back! They do do the head bob, but this is more of a shaking.. but its only apparent in their neck. When we first got them Shadow (on the left) was the follower and Max (on the right) was the dominant bird.. but as of recent this has changed and Shadow has been...

    MALLARD THREAD...not rouens, Mallards!

Hi All! TI posted in one of the other threads, but didn't get much response so I thought I'd repost here... I just joined the site seeing how I can't find much of anything about having ducks as pets! I saved two 6 month old mallard drakes from some pretty awful conditions - I've had them for...
