Odd warm day for feb so let my group out, ignore the Maline and Maline x lol
Still cannot say enough good things about my roo, so gentle so kind with the hens...
The hens lay huge eggs too, not bred any tho likely won't this year either ..
Oh dear lol well no mine got over it considering how long our winters are they'd have too. Treats? maybe make a path, i sweep back snow ... mine would die for a 32+ day right now we've been brutally cold.
one of my ladies out in the snow, now i won't say she's super impressed lol but they...
I don't own any Maline roosters, i only chose hens.. i admit to waffling on the choice of adding a rooster period and opted in the end to get my Biel boy. I've seen Maline roos at the breeder i got my Malines from.. they were quite big, i am not sure though the actual differences in overall sizing.
For the sake of reference..
Here is a Bielefelder hen on the left and a Maline on the right, i keep my Biele's with Malines..
A snap of one the hens by herself.. they are getting used to snow but i still think they'd like their grass back.
I think it depends somewhat, i have Ameraucana and EE's in my yard(they were here first) and my bielefelders and Malines flock are under them. They don't house together so i will give that, but often they are in each other houses lol The Amera and EE's leave often though, they clear the 4ft...
who has snow? my roo absolutely hates it like he will attempt flight to avoid it... otherwise awesome birds my rooster is everything you want from a leader.. he's such a snow wimp though it's rather hysterical.
I don't find mine eat tons at all, as a matter of fact they are quite content in wandering about looking for tidbits. During the rapid chick growth they ate reasonable amounts but being large fowl nothing overly piggy.
Very happy with mine...
Would anyone happen to have a pic of an egg? sounds silly i know but i think one of my pullets is laying but because i run them with Malines i cannot be sure.. interesting conversation on pricing, i paid 20$ per each chick, got mine as a couple day olds, sexed. I have a trio. :)
Mine are loose in a very large area... my cockerel is definitely mating and up to bothering the hens, i have Malines in with them too. No eggs yet, but all the ladies are redding up.
My cockerel is huge but i would expect just like with any breed, not all will have the best examples or sizing for the breed. I have no clue what my guy weighs now but he is beyond an armful... Maybe i'll see if can weigh him today, he's completely capable of being handled.
