    Lavender cuckoo easter egger

LOL! That is great news though. Donna Rippy does have some recessive white in her lavenders that pops up occasionally, but hers and mine are not related, so it would be odd to see it in these. SIlver duckwing is still a possibility.

Couple pics- wish I could get a better shot of the slate legs!!!! they are pale, but solid. She's still small, and nobody to hold her for me, so we'll see how she grows out. Sweet as pie- these birds are crazy- always under foot. And talk about crazy leakage- black barring and...

Sooo....do we have to use cuckoo silkies that were made from white silkies? Or is that oversimplifying?

I think that would remind me too much of these guys:

And you don't want to use Rocks and have yellow skin popping up. At least the Marans were white skinned to start with. But- if you could find one of those Rocks with the awesome, crisp, show quality barring, and pale skin....Maybe talk to Scott in GA (Yard Full O Rocks)

They look great! What are you feeding them? They look so shiny!

I am thinking this juvie is a female, and that is why she still has slate legs.

    Lavender cuckoo easter egger

Just one, more reason that we have a little time to play around with this and work out the bugs. I have been getting some nice solid splits and lavs out of the project too, so its benefiting all around.

Oooh I'd like some of those lav crele legbars if you get some going! I don't know enough about the breed to even think about it. Yet.

    Lavender cuckoo easter egger

I wish I had a few to work with. Would help with egg color as well. I am hoping to have a lav silver duckwing girl out of this last batch of chicks. I love the way lav dilutes red to that buttery color. So far, all of my lav silvers have been males. I had to put the cuckoo roo in time out...

    Lavender cuckoo easter egger

I hatched 13 chicks last week. I ended up with 2 black/split cuckoo, 1 black/split, 2 lavenders, and 8 lav cuckoos. Not bad for having a single factor roo and all solid hens.

He's just got to breeding age- I think there are pics of new chicks a page back. Nice big head spots- really easy to tell the lavs chicks are cuckoo this time around.

    Lavender cuckoo easter egger

Got some new pics of my roo today before they escaped the coop. I have a few eggs saved up, really debating on setting a few. My lav and split Ameraucanas that lay the bluer eggs are both broody again, so I just have the projects and the eggs are a bit on the grey side at this point. He does...

Go back to this page, and read what Boggy Bottom Bantams wrote: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/524659/lavender-cuckoo-easter-egger/10 Very valuable information if you are working with any color and cuckoo. When you are using lavender, you will have to introduce the lav gene as well as the...

    Lavender cuckoo easter egger

I had a broody hatch some babies today. I was really surprised that I got cuckoos because I had just taken the plain lav roo out a few days before I got these eggs. They don't quite have their land legs yet!

    Lavender cuckoo easter egger

I would grow the light ones that show decent barring out a bit more. As long as they have good combs and no yellow skin- you know. My lav cuckoo roo looked like heck at that stage, but finished out quite nice. Wish I was closer- I'd take the oddball in a second!

    Lavender cuckoo easter egger

No- I would keep him if you want to do a crele project though. I like the one with darker feet. I would keep any barred girls that seem type-y, and see how their egg color is.

    Lavender cuckoo easter egger

Hmmm. Bird one is interesting! It does look crele, BUT it looks like it might be double barred, and it has darker legs. Hold on to that one- and get some lav wheaten eggs from Chicken Stalker! Also there is a regular cuckoo one on the right of the middle pic of groups. Does it have some...

    Lavender cuckoo easter egger

I need some eggs from somebody with cuckoo hens as well as roos. I wasn't lucky enough to hatch any barred girls here, so the next generation from my projects will still just be single-factor for barring. I cleaned out the breeding pen and just dusted and wormed everybody, so in a few weeks I...
