Finally after 24 almost 25 weeks I finally got my egg!! It's so small compared to my store bought eggs, my only problem is that I don't know which barnevelder laid it because both are squatting now
The barnevelder started squatting last week of July. The hamburgs, well one of them, has also become less flighty. They check out nest boxes some days, I put an X of hay over the golf balls so I know if they go in there.
These are my hamburgs and barnevelder crosses. The other girls are Cochins so I don't expect them to lay for a while. I don't think heat would be an issue for them as they are in the shade when it hot but i do live in Southern California.
that's possible but I don't think that's happening, I had an egg eater in my old flock 4 years ago and I would find the nesting material soiled with the yolk and albumen, the nesting material in my boxes is dry and clean so I don't think she's eating them. I check for egg white and yolk on the...
One of my girls laid a shell-less and yolk-less egg the night of 7/24 and hasn't laid again since!! I don't know who it was but on of barnevelders started squaring for me a the next day but still no eggs from her anyways.
I'm beginning to think these girls will never lay for me :(
Got our first egg last night at 22.75 weeks old from one of the Hamburgs. It was small, and without a shell or yolk, but it's ok she's trying. Any idea when she might lay again or start laying "normal" eggs?
I'm very jealous of all these people getting eggs at 16-19 weeks. My barnevelders and Hamburgs are 22 weeks old, had big red hen combs for a month, AND STILL NOT LAID!! I'm still waiting ... Waiting forever ...
My new pullets 22weeks aren't squatting like my older hens used to, I would just make a motion as if I were reaching down and they would hit a squat, but when I pet them down their back they pick up their tail, is that the same as a squat ?
No, I haven't seen any eggs. They can't be hiding them, their coop is attached to their run so they have no place to lay but in the run, or the nest boxes, or on the coop floor. I thought maybe they were eating them but I've never seen yolk or egg shell anywhere. I don't think I'm going to get...
I'm desperately waiting for my first egg. I have 8 pullets hatched 2/17. These are the two I'm sure the first egg will come from since they are the only ones with developed combs
They both developed their combs at around 17-18weeks. Hopefully that egg comes soon! Both of those pullets and a...
