Aw, Bailey sounds so cute! Haha, such a funny, cute story I can just imagine the confusion on her face! Thanks for sharing with us.
I am so sorry! It's so hard when hatches don't work out and you spend three weeks waiting and watching and then you don't get any baby Chickies in turn. I hope...
This was such a cute story! I loved Christina's sass and all your chickens names! I'm so sorry you lost her, but thank you for sharing such a cute story about your chickens.
Oh, how cool! I hope your hatch has a good turnout! I always get so exciting with hatching eggs! It's almost better than Christmas, haha! Peck, babies, peck!
She was actually a partridge Silkie. She was reddish brown with some gold. As far as I could tell at least. But Gingie wasn't 100% Silkie. She was actually mixed with something else along the way, because she had a single comb and white skin. But, I do have a reddish-buff female Silkie right now...
Thank you so much! I know, she was so adorable! I loved her so much!
Of course! I haven't shared her story in a while since this happened in 2013, but I still think about her all the time. I think Sophie missed her too, we didn't have another Silkie Hen for him, and he just was never the same...
Okay, so, these photos aren't great quality because I took a picture of a picture off of my other camera, but I had to find a way to share some photos of Gingie. So here they are! Hopefully you guys can at least somewhat see her...
Yes, I have a few pictures of her as well, but I sadly can't upload the kind of memory card they are on into my tablet. I would have shared one of her.
To add, I knew absolutely nothing about hatching but had no broodies. But I got Silkie eggs from Florida and hatched them in the incubator. I have a whole bunch of stories I could tell about them too. But I know we're only allowed one. Haha.
I know! Oh, my goodness! I didn't get over the initial shock till morning and when I did I immediately thought that I had two of her (Gingie's ) eggs in the refrigerator. But there were both about a week old, but I had to try, so I went and got an incubator set it all up and set her two eggs...
Haha, thank you all! I wrote it, and I think you may need those tissues. I even cried a little writing it. I hope you guys enjoy, as I have enjoyed so much reading all of your stories! Thanks so much for sharing about your amazing chickens lives!
Gingie- The Bravest Little Silkie Hen
I happened upon Gingie on a bright summer day. There were three unexpected roosters in our chick order from the hatchery and being a new chicken keeper I didn't feel competent enough to keep them, I also didn't want anyone being rough with my girls, so I...
