Havi,
The youtube video is GREAT! THanks so much. I knew that the ph balance is what causes (especially) fresh eggs to adhere to the shell, but didn't know of a solution. So baking soda is the solution!
We now have an answer that works everytime.
cook the eggs at a slow boil for 12...
I've been running warm/hot water over the eggs just before peeling and they've been peeling really easily. Not sure if that'll work for others - please someone else give it a try and let me know. thanks.
Flowerchick,
Welcome to the forum
And thanks for the tip. From my research it seems that really fresh eggs have a different ph balance than older ones and it makes the shell adhere...
If you quickly peel the hardboiled eggs using the salt or vinegar methods, followed by ice water, they...
I used the vinegar method and the first egg peeled really well. Unfortunately, I refrigerated the remaining eggs and when I tried to peel them they didn't work out as well. Even the one that I left out to get to room temp still didn't peel as well as the initial egg. So I'd say if you're...
I just boiled up 6 eggs in a pan with 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and they came great. I used cold water and the acv and put in the eggs and then boiled them. Once the water started to boil I gave it 10 more minutes. Worked like a charm.
Thank you Newnanchick.... it works like a dream.
I used 1/4 of a cup of salt and boiled them up and voila - absolutely easy to peel.
Hope this helps everyone save a little time and not waste those precious eggs.
So I tried many methods to hard-boil eggs so that they're easy to peel. I've had no success.
I've used the boil and then immediately dunk in ice water; I've tried the poke a hole in the eggs; I've tried vinegar; I've tried putting oil in the water; I've boiled the water first... and the...
It's funny how mistakes can uncover ideas/solutions/ inventions. I'll put a little oil in the pan and see if that helps.
I'll also try the other ideas. thanks
Thanks Sunnychooks. I'll get one for myself and my DIL. My little grandchildren like hardboiled eggs, but only the whites! And it's really a problem when you lose about half of the whites when peeling.
I have tried 3 methods so far and none really work on my fresh eggs. The membrane sticks to the white. I was very careful and saved most of the white, but it's definitely not working. Here are the ways that I've tried: I've boiled and then placed in ice water; I've boiled in salt water and...
Thanks for all the ideas for helping with this dilemma. I'll try them all out ...salt water, ice water, and I'll try to 'age' them a bit - that's the harder one to do since I've only got a few gals laying and everyone wants my eggs - so they never get old.
Stay tuned, I'll boil a few up...
Is it because they are fresh? I'm running them under cold water, but boy are they difficult to separate from the membrane
The Solution is Salt - and I mean a good amount - 1/4 to 1/3 of a cup into the water and then boil up the eggs - They peel like a dream!!!!
