My 26 week old AMs are finally starting to lay nice blue eggs. Have been getting 1-2 every two to three days for a week then today actually got 4 eggs from my 6 AMs. Mid sized but good color. Can't wait to hatch some this spring.
I have a sick pullet, very odd. She is laying down with her neck twisted 360 degrees in a corkscrew whee her head is upside down. I can straighten out her neck then she twist it right back I think she will be dead by this afternoon. Any ideas what is going on? Is in a large coop and run with 35...
I disagree. If someone is wanting a nice full blood rooster/cockerel to breed, not to eat, then they should pay a little more for them. By asking more for them hopefully will get them breeder homes not in a pot. I am talking only about the nicer cockerels that deserve to be breeders, I wouldn't...
What is a fair price for 3-4 month old AM cockerels? I have extra from my straight run chicks and need to sell a few. My problem is all of the people on Craigslist that are selling EE as AMs to cheap! It is so hard to get people to understand the difference when they can get the EEs for only...
Thanks, sounds like good advice. I will take out the AM Roos for 3-4 weeks, check fertility on eggs, then when clear put in the JG roo. I won't have time to do this until late fall but will post pics when I do. Thanks!
Thanks! That's what I am hoping. I want to breed some large Easter eggers just for more egg production, I can't keep any eggs for sale more than 1-2 days. But want to let the EE hens free range with my flock of jersey giants. Only having JG Roos free ranging will let me still collect and either...
What color of eggs would be layed by hens that I get from breeding my b/bk/s ams with my b/bk/s jersey giants?? Would make huge easter eggers in b/bk/s hens but what about the eggs?? Green?? Would I be able to tell the eggs readily from my pure breed brown egg laying jersey giants if I let them...
Ok sorry. My genetics boxes don't post the same as I have them drawn out on my iPhone. You should have a box with one parents genes on top and the other along the side then you just make a box graph. Can't do on my phone and it show right on the post.
Bc x Bc = 25% BB, 50% Bc, 24% cc
75%...
Ok genetics 101
We will us B for beard and muffs and C for clean faced.
Each bird will carry two genes. If the gene is dominant it doesn't matter if the bird has one or two it will show the trait. Cleaned faced would mean that doesn't carry the gene thus can not pass it along.
If you breed...
I'm in same situation except I am worried about my current big JG Roos hurting the Ams Roos or even the small hens breeding them. I currently have 19 black JG hens with 3 Roos, adding 2 dozen blue and splash chicks end of may along with 15 straight run BBS Ams chicks. I have a huge coop for the...
I like all colors, am considering getting some buff eggs to incubate and hatch at the same time as my BBS will arrive. I've seen the color charts on breeding BBS, what happens if you add buffs to the same flock???
I currently have black Jersey Giants and am getting BBS JG chicks along with the...
Glad i found this thread. I'll be new to the breed at the end of May. I've got 15 chicks ordered from Taylor Hobby farm coming. Will be straight run BBS. I'm so excited to get them.
