If I were to GUESS....I would say that you have a pair and that the rooster has the bigger dot. If it was my breeding program I would band the ones I thought were roosters when they hatch and then watch them as they grow out to see if I was correct. BlueXBlue is also going to get you some Barred...

I love the pictures. If you used CBB over CBB then all the chicks should have spots on their heads. I imagine that the one that doesn't have one....does but will be a lighter barring so it won't be visible until later. They look like they have a fantastic foster mom!

No, I'm sorry this is our Heritage Speckled Sussex. Hatching eggs for them will be available in the next few weeks.
The Birchens are some of the darkest I have ever seen! They don't seem to fade as quickly as other breeds, such as the Welsummer.
We will hopefully have new stock pictures up soon. It has been raining, raining, raining, and raining at our breeding farms so getting out onto some grass to get pretty pictures has proven difficult.

This is a fairly large breeding pen with unrelated roosters and hens. There is a slight chance that they are related, however many breeders do breed closely related stock back to each other the first generation. After that, you will need or get "new" blood. I always look for new rooster to make...
