I ordered RC Light Browns from Mr. Urch last year. Months later I said I would take ANY Leghorns he had. He said none of them were laying. Just a word of caution.

If anyone knows of show/breeder quality Rose Comb Dark or Light Brown, Black, or Red LHs in or near Colorado, please PM me or post here. I had some ordered from Mr. Urch and his LHs are not laying this year.

I usually use starter 4-6 weeks then switch to grower until ~ 20 weeks, when I switch to layer.

My personal preference is RC, but wondered whether they deal with heat as well as SC? I am in CO, which can be plenty cold in winter and plenty hot in summer, at 5400 ft elevation. I don't really like that flopped over comb on SC hens, just me, and think RC are less prone to frostbite as well...

Excellent - I am getting some L browns from Mr. Urch this coming spring and was panicking thinking I had to remake my order :) I want to send in my order this next week and didn't really want to revise it again LOL. Do you have an opinion on RC vs SC?

Okay, thanks, this book says something about markings becoming faded if you don't put a dark brown male over the light brown females for well-marked females, and the reverse for good markings on the males, but it was written a looong time ago, 1920, the Lamon and Slocum book, "The Mating and...

I read a rather old publication recently that indicated the need for both light and dark brown leghorns in order to have correct and well marked male and female light brown leghorns. Has this been the experience of those here?

Can anyone tell me whether the American Leghorn Breeders Club and the American Brown Leghorn Club are still active groups? If not, are there Leghorn clubs active right now?

After both really, but type before production. I did email Duane just now, but if you know of breeders selling good foundation stock, especially anywhere near Colorado, I would appreciate any referrals you can make. I am a rank novice when it comes to type in chickens. What would be the best...

Sorry you said both type and color were not to your liking in the McMurray's

Okay good -and you said you were not particularly pleased with the type on the light browns you got from McMurray, correct? Are colors outcrossed for type or is it preferable to simply continue breeding best to best of the variety for improvement?

Thank you very much! I was surprised to see McMurray offering other than White LHs and have toyed with the idea of ordering some next spring. Is type desired consistent across all colors, so the only difference between them is the coloration?
