TWEAK MY COOP~Tweaks on the Cheap

Really! That's good to know we have 2x2 roosts in the new coop but since we haven't been able to put them in yet I'm not sure how they are going to like them. We will be taking down the roosts in their current pen and reusing some in the new one as well. The current ones are some hardwood...

TWEAK MY COOP~Tweaks on the Cheap

Yep its the dry snow usually and the wind never stops. I'll keep the thread updated over the winter if we have any issues...more worried about being warm enough than the snow here. Now back home in MT it would be the snow not the cold I'd be worried about.

TWEAK MY COOP~Tweaks on the Cheap

Good to know. We get a lot of snow but the wind usually blows so much it doesn't build up on the top of things...just the sides which is why we made the doors open inward.

TWEAK MY COOP~Tweaks on the Cheap

Finished size is 12.5' wide 27.5' long and @ 7.5' high. 8 x 12.5 is the completely closed in coop. The rest is run. We have the shade tarp for the summer and will also order another of the heavy duty clear poly tarp for the end that is still open. We used pvc to build the frame along with...

that is the site I used as well. I did have one issue. I ordered a very large 24 x30 tarp and there are two seams through it. One of them didn't get sealed all the way. I was going to return it and have them ship me a new one but the hubby didn't want to wait so we got some spray adhesive...

That's good to know too. I need to pick up more grommets today...should've brought the die with me! Ugh! Hope I find ones that will work.

Yes, I think that was where I got the idea...I have several pictures of your coop (and others) that I have printed and showed the hubby. We took ideas from all of them and came up with something we hope will work well!

That's good to know as well. We bought the clear fiber reinforced poly tarp to close in and a 50% shade tarp for the shade. The shade tarp is smaller and will go on the top so the sides will still let plenty of light in. Guess time will tell how well it works out! :)

TWEAK MY COOP~Tweaks on the Cheap

So now that we are moving I get the chance to build a new coop. We decided on the hoop coop style and have begun construction. Last night we started putting extra grommets in the shade tarp we bought for the run. It went great but I thought I'd share a tip. When using the small tube cutter in...

Do you have a picture by chance? I'm always looking for design ideas. I work in a business where we get 4-6 pallets a day so I have access to all of them I can haul!

Pallets can be a great way to get lumber if you don't need too long of sections. I saw a pic of a greenhouse (could have been a great hoop coop where they used pallets for the sides and pvc to form the arcs...I have access to tons of pallets so I am considering something along those lines as well.

TWEAK MY COOP~Tweaks on the Cheap

I saw this thread come up on the homepage this morning and I LOVE IT! I've been going back and forth with the hubby on ideas for redoing our current chicken habitat. I want a shed/coop so I can store feed, extra feeders/waters, a couple bales of straw, bedding, etc on one side and the coop on...
