One last post from me, and then I will quit following this thread. I gave away the last 2 Dixie hens that I had, as they are approaching their 3rd birthdates and I am concentrating on other breeds. They continue to be mild mannered, friendly birds who lay very large eggs. Sadly, several of mine...
UPDATE: At this point my Dixies are a little over a year old and going through their first real molt. They have been extremely consistent layers, with LARGE brown eggs, often double yolkers! I lost a few - one to *unknown* (went out and found her dead) and 2 to my stupid puppy, but the rest are...
The dixies don't have feathers on their legs, and look a little different - I'll dig out some baby pics. As for food conversion, they have been extremely efficient and are excellent foragers too!

Thought I would add a few new photos of the Dixie Rainbow pullets as they grow...
The Dixie in the next photo was hatched the same exact day as the Speckled Sussex chicks - you can see the size difference!
These girls are so stinking friendly that I have finally decided to keep them for eggs! I called the Hatchery this morning and the gal said they lay over 250 eggs a year and lay very large brown eggs. With as friendly as these girls are, I have gotten rather attached and really was not liking...
Here are some of my chicks - hatched 4/16/13 and photo taken today on 5/8/13 - they are at LEAST twic the size of the speckled sussex chicks that were hatched the same day...
I have 17 of these chicks, hatched 4/16, and purchased them for meat. They are extremely friendly and curious and I am finding myself tempted to just see how they do laying instead... I'll try to get some pics of them when I shift them out to the stall "nursery" this weekend. They are, of...
