Duck Breed Focus - Welsh Harlequin

The golden 300 looks good to me if there is a chance that the source got them from Metzer. Holderead's has had them in the past, but it doesn't look like they are carrying the Metzer Hybrids this year.

Are the legs and feet dark too??? The only duck I have that would have that dark of a bill and that light of a fuzz would be a Chocolate runner, but I haven't had everything . Does it stand upright sometimes??? In her earliest pics our Chocolate looked a little dirty yellow in fuzz and had a...

If you don't find anyone there, I would recommend Metzer Farms. You can have your ducklings sexed and get exactly what you want and their WHs are beautiful and well tempered.

A duck you can tell because there's an egg Each duck's egg looks slightly different. Some are longer vs wide and different weight ranges some ducks have smoother shells, some are coarser. Other ducks may have different color eggs depending on what you get. WH are white, but with just a few...

If you do breed, you may be able to tell your WH's eggs from the other eggs. If you only let those hatch, you wouldn't have to worry about mix ducks. The rest make good omelets . But if you do hatch ducks, they are 50% likely to be male so you will most likely be in a cull/rehome situation...

Duck Breed Focus - Welsh Harlequin

One drake should be fine if you really want him. If you are thinking of breeding the WH, you will end up with more drakes to either cull/rehome so ask yourself if you can do that. If you aren't thinking of breeding the WH, then just ask yourself why you really want him. If you have a good...

Good luck. I have my one problem boy (and one who is no problem at all). I couldn't handle any more. I hope all your drakes are like Tevye and none are like Kaine.

Wow! That's why I don't breed ducks. Other than calls, most people want more than 1 or 2 ducks so drakes are difficult to re-home (also most people don't eat call duck eggs so non-breeders are happier to have an all drake flock). So if you want to breed ducks, you need to have more of the...

I have read according to Dave Holderead, this method is 90% accurate. You got the sneaky 10%. I hope it wasn't a disastrous outcome. I would have certainly called female from that pic. It is still worth while though. If you are right even with the odds and ignore the bill, and you get 10...

I think the one with the green head is the drake . Seriously, very nice pics .

I think good enough. If the back duck in the first pic is the same ducks as in the last pic, he's the boy and the others are the girls (I think.)

I don't think size matters. On the up in the air, I am going with girl because the tip is darker. If her bill was the same color with the tip lighter, I would go boy. We will see when they are old enough

Duck Breed Focus - Welsh Harlequin

Supposedly for the first two days (so only Hatchers will know) boys have dark bills and girls have light bills with dark tips. By day 3 you can't tell. Edit: Darn for April fools I should have said I could see his equipment from the photo. :gig

I think the one in the middle is a drake and the other two are ducks. But I am not sure. Tell me if I'm right when they start quacking

Duck Breed Focus - Welsh Harlequin

I have most of Metzer's inventory (no hybrids, no Jumbo, no Mallards). My WH is definitely the mellowest. My ducks live in the yard with several hours of socialization / week plus of course we are there for all the chores. So they are more socialized than ducks that are just taken care of...

I read in another source that in the UK they only recognize gold phase. I would guess then that any non-gold traits would just be deviations. I wouldn't know. I don't show mine... Just spoil her rotten ;-)

Not cocky at all. That is is the problem with the printed word. Tone is very hard to interpret. I am curious just as you are. If someone knows better than I do I am completely open to their information. I would just like them to educate me rather than just say I am wrong. That way in the...

Duck Breed Focus - Welsh Harlequin

Not a problem at all. I would guess then as a person involved in the shows, you would have the correct info. Would you please enlighten me. I got my info from a breeder / seller of WH which seemed reputable enough and their site showed that the primary differences between silver and gold...

X2! Hey, maybe I am just overlooking the obvious... Someone is sneaking around my house and swapping out my ducks while I am sleeping

Feb 2015 / Feb 2016 - Noir is a little younger so this is 9 months old vs 21 months old. In her 9 month pic, she has a couple white feathers showing near her tail. At 6 months they weren't even there... Just the one white one on the shoulder that is hidden in the first pic (that was there...
