You could give it a try and see how you like it. Will you be using a poop board too? Poop will not 'compost' in sand, you need carbon(wood chippings) to break down the nitrogen in the poops. Sand bedding was/is all the rage...but it's a lot of work. Your climate is likely so humid you don't...

Well, that post you quoted is 6 years old, I've long ago gone to straight PDZ on the poop boards because I couldn't find that sand any more. It worked fine, it was washed so dustless. I used it for concrete sculpture before getting chickens, I've looked at a LOT of sands. I would not use sand...

I keep the layer of PDZ thin(<1/4") and sift it all daily....add as needed. Here's some posts about it, they're kind of old, but changes are noted. ...and the threads these posts are in has a ton of examples of poop boards...

No Kidding!!! I think about 30 birds is my limit for daily sifting... ...but my coop only holds about 20 over winter.

The term 'stall fresh' is used in more than a few products. Even Sweet PDZ has 'stall freshener' on the label. You need to find the exact ingredients of a product to know what it actually is, some never list them even in the MSDS, they can be hard to find, takes some real digging. Some lime is...

Yep, collects the 'night poop'....which sifted daily goes to a buddies compost. Makes the floor bedding last longer.

Less moisture in coop...nicer winter environment. Takes maybe 10 minutes to sift poop daily, am better able to do that small daily task then move that much litter even once a year. Have never actually tallied the amount of poop...but I'd guess it averages out to about 10-15 gallons a month. I...

I used ~1/4" luan underlayment with 2x2 on edges and vinyl liner, only change from this would be to make support brackets go all the way to the 2x2 edge underneath. More here...

PDZ can be dusty too, especially if you get the powder instead of the granules. Even the granules are dusty tho.<shrugs> Chickens can sure be dust generators.
