    Backyard Brahmas!!

I hope I won't need a helper bar in the cochin pen. I have 4 of the same nest boxes but all on one level until I need more if I ever do. I have yet to try to integrate a few older hens in this pen to help teach the Cochins a few things. I plan to fold the nest box bars up at night to keep from...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Blooie, is the added wooden bar for them to enter and exit with? Please explain why you added it. I too have these nest boxes in my new coop for LF Cochins. My Cochins are not yet ready to use boxes but any insight will be grateful. Large fowl are a addiction I am trying to limit myself with. lol!

    Backyard Brahmas!!

I may have to find better Brahma stock in the next yr or so. my current 1 yr old group of 4 is now 2.They are in my mixed flock and do well with the EE bunch. Those big girls plow over the others now and then. Poor birds don't know what hit em most the time.

Bumper Carr thank you for the info. I do most of the same things with my adult males. They both stay clear of Mom, she will pick you up and put lotion on your regrowing tail! I did not know the forcing them to the ground bit. Hubby said Lil Guy put Stumpy on the ground yesterday.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Bumper Carr I am trying to figure out how to cross post. Wall meet forehead!! On mobile and I don't think the options are as vast as pc. But I wondered how well it would teach my Lil Guy he is not the boss he believes he is. He is not a Brahma but males are males.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

I too need a screen door on my coops but I am getting resistance from the male in the house to get said task done. I worry dogs, coyotes or big coon could push store bought one apart. So I am going to get a good look at what is stock screen door then probably got grab 2x4s, corner brackets and...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Big Medicine, thank you for replying. I worry some about the outside run feeder . it is well under the coop eve and most wild birds can't get in my run. I really like 1x2 welded wire, I should buy stock in it. Once in awhile a tiny sparrow gets in and my Brahmas usually case them off.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Big Medicine, just would like your thoughts on if I am over doing on feed. My adult coop has one feeder with Hubbard Layena for the girls but outside I give one scoop of Hubbard Game Bird Feed for my guys and extra protein. Also I really think the growth time line posted will work with my other...

New march thank you for your response. My girl now named Big G, yeah for gimp, has been like this for over 3 months. I don't know if she landed wrong from the roost or the nesting box. She never went on the roost much to start with. But she has improved since it happened I just wish I knew what...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Big Medicine you have such beautiful birds! I pray some day I can get stock from a breeder. My Brahmas are doing well, except one is somewhat lame. She walks but limps. I can't find a break in her legs or any injury to her. She stays inside on her own and she still is laying. The other birds do...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

My LF Light Brahmas have started laying, 2 of the 4 anyhow. I am so happy with how they look even if hatchery stock, legs are getting feathered more and more. My largest girl knocked my EE cockerel on his butt again today. He popped up shook off and stood there like duuh, what happened? ?
