Hi Ron, 2nd generation BA's here. They came from two sources in Ontario. The original Cock is my avatar. I'm hoping the AI scare will settle down by fall so we can get back to showing here.
I agree, They don't mention other feather colours than white for a DQ and It doesn't have to be a whole feather either. I have some chicks come in with white in the primary tips and they loose those on the first moult. If they carry the white as an adult cull them. Although the green sheen...
Went to Ontario Poultry Breeders Show in Milton Ontario this past weekend.
Reserve Breed with a Pullet
Best of Breed and Reserve English with a Cockerel
The field was only 9 Australorps and 4 were my birds. We have to get more Australorps out to the shows.
You might have to drive there. It can't be that far.
I drove from Peterborough to Banff once in 48hrs by myself, up to the Yukon and back then back to Peterborough in 42hrs. I put on 11800km in 15days with 6 days of rest.
Yes, I believe the standard calls for tighter body feathers and smooth sweep on the back without transition. Perhaps the tail is a little high unless it's the way she's standing at the moment. Are you going to breed her back to a black with a clean face? She looks big!
It would be nice to just have a steady system like that. Have you found that there is a point at which the protien is too much and would cause longevity or digestive issues? Some are feeding 25%. Are your breeders on the same feed as your show stock, or do they just get oyster free choice?
It seems to make sense. Always breeding towards a darker colour would cause darkening of all colours in other features. The SOP gives a fine line to balance on. I've been told Type before color.
How much Mana? I see it is quite potent. 1 table spoon/bird seems hard to control as they could pick it out of their regular rations unless you feed a specific amount so that there are no "leftovers"
The local feed store is only used to feeding production meat and layer stock. I would like...
