All my mandarins have bred their first year. I dont know of any of the feeds nowdays made with harmful medication. That was in the olden days. If your drake is losing feathers its because he is molting. No big deal. They all do that shortly after breeding. Sometimes it happens even a bit...

Great pics. Yes they will shoot tru 1 in chicken wire easily for the first week or two. They do stay with mom for the most part but if you dont have at least 11/2 high or higher of some kind of 1/4 inch wire(also called hardware cloth btw) they will shoot in and out of your pen and may get lost...

Great photos indeed Blue Creek. Those pics are as good as it gets! Thats why I have and will always have a pair or two flying around here. As Beautiful as they are one would think they would be one of the most expensive as opposed to one of the best priced in the wild duck world. Those are some...

8-12 is usually what I get from one hen Lisa. I have saved a few hatchlings and leftover eggs left in the boxes before if ya feel like it next time. When ever I see the new ducklings with their mom out of the boxes on the morning they hatch I immediately check the box to see whats left or might...

The real truth of the matter is me and most all will take pics when we just cleaned the pools or ponds.Cause everyone likes a preety pic. In reality the pools or ponds are dirty in about 3 days. They are messy ducks for crying out loud. I dont mind the actual dirt mind you but they pee and...

Its almost impossible to get any wild duck eggs from day one in just an incubator to hatch, I have done it but it basically involves twice the turning, cooling the eggs and misting. Ive been trying to perfect this for years and my hatch rate is still around just above 50%.Sorry but Im not...

You can just leave him in if you want. He wont hurt the babies. But I never had one help neither. Mom generally is the caretaker of them.

She can cover 14. The most I ever had one hatch was 16 out of 20 eggs! So I know she can. LOL! You can let another bird incubate if you want also but she is more than capable.

Sometimes they skip a day or two. Sometimes they will lay 14 eggs. Leave her be cause she will set if not bothered.
