    Breda Fowl thread

Hi everyone! Just tried to catch up, I haven't been around since like May. Hope everyone (and your animals) are doing well! I ordered some mail order Breda eggs from California again, but none hatched USPS much have done a number on them. I still have my Brie, but she hasn't laid in a few...

I can't keep roosters, but I have a silkie that's about 3 months old now and clearly a roo, but he's my FAVORITE of all the birds!!!! Someone else suggested caponizing to keep him from ever crowing, but I don't know about all that...

Thank you all for the support, I love this page Every chicken related lesson I have learned the hard way. BUT, live and learn I haven't made the same mistake twice. Still pretty bummed no more Breda. Guess I just have to give Brie some extra love.

It's her and one other broody together in a rabbit hutch each on their own eggs No other chickens could get in, but they were moving around some. Guess they got shrink wrapped, but they weren't in there long. It looks like they were smothered.

Is this common in using a broody? Could it be since this was her first time she didn't know to move off of them so they could breathe? I wish I would have taken them and brought them inside for lockdown. I've only ever used an incubator before, but I thought this would break them of their...

They're all dead!!!!!!! First time using a broody. I went back to check and all the ones that had pipped had their beaks out of the shell, mouths open, mom laying on top of them, smothering them. She wouldn't move for them to get out she just sat there until they all slowly suffocated to death...

    Breda Fowl thread

Well, first, Thank you!!! We're only on 1/3 acre in the city, but I went all gungho about raising our own food so I put a 20'x40' organic corn field right in my front yard. My almost 3 year old was in there helping me and I just adored that photo of her. No, Tiny Tim doesn't get a pardon...

Aww I'm sorry you've had them do that. I guess I've just gotten lucky with ones that don't fight too much? I have a mean turkey, but he's in the meat pen. His name is Tiny Tim & he's Christmas dinner. All the ones in the pet pen are pretty docile. Your ranging area is about the same size as...

My flock is entirely mixed, and kept all together. Large fowl, a few bantams, silkies, Breda, even my peacock and turkey hen. My Breda is a little bit of a loner, always has been, but I've never had any type of fighting. My meanest one is a Golden Laced Wyandotte if anyone tries to eat at the...

    Breda Fowl thread

Thank you! :) My Breda is very dainty, she hasn't broken any feathers. But I have heard that can be a common problem with the breed. Brie kinda struts around like a princess haha. I haven't gotten any peacock feathers yet either. He doesn't have his typical "eye" tail feathers yet, they...

Brie hanging out with my peacock this morning I have a Marans and a Lav Orp that wet broody and I can't break, so I gave them the Breda eggs I ordered. First time using a broody, hope I get some chicks!!!

I've never seen Barred Breda before, really cool looking! And, yes, they remind me of dinosaurs, too.

My Breda eggs just arrived a day early! I planned on setting up the 'bator tonight for their arrival tomorrow afternoon. Normally I would let the eggs set for before going in to settle, but it's been HOT. Mid 90s here and we're one of the last stops on the mail route. I would think they've...

Sylvestor, your mom sounds like an amazing! I've never had any of those things. Our dream is to one day have dairy. In NC there is a ban on all raw milk so we can't even buy it or a cow share. We've honestly thought about adding a couple dairy goats, but I think that would bring more attention...

Yes I'm the same way about animals! And her orps are still laying, not sure of how many actual eggs she's getting from them though. Our city ordinance allows 10 backyard fowl of any kind including roosters, unless of continued noise complaints. So technically I could keep a rooster, but right...

Yes I'm trying to get some pullets, I don't keep roosters. Some of the rarer breeds that are too pretty to eat I rehome or try to sell in breeding pairs. The others that hatch out as males are grown out and sent to freezer camp to feed my family. I've never had all boys hatch, it usually...

I bought more blue Breda eggs! Haha I have a definite problem as we seriously have more chickens than we need! I was asked where I bought my eggs from and had to look it up in my archive on ebay purchases and saw the seller was selling eggs at a great price compared to what they were originally...

Thanks She does have a lot of foot feathers everytime I hold her I end up with mud and who knows what else all over my shirt from them haha. I let them free range all day so they're always getting into everything. She's definitely my favorite out of all of them though. I feel bad for her...
