This is just an educated guess as I am pretty new at this. I had a buff orp with the longer pointed wings like chick #2 and it turned out to be a boy (though sexed as a pullet). Also - early comb development. Behavior should give you some insight too. So I say #1 girl #2 boy. Sorry - not...

I may do that. I would like one of each but I should probably hedge my bets next time so I am more likely to get a blue pullet out of the hatch.

Ouch! That is a high percentage of black! Luck of the draw. I'm hoping next time to find someone in our area with a splash over a blue so I am sure to get a blue or splash. This is just for our backyard flock for fun and eggs - no breeding. (Waiting for retirement when I move out to the...

Well done! She looks like quite the chicken wrangler! The splash looks like a pretty little bird. Too bad about the blue. I am bummed because our hopeful blue is instead a black. Still unsure of sex. Still has the gi-normous feet but almost no comb so we may end up with a hen yet. Very...

Bummer you didn't get a splash. I think they are quite pretty and hope to get one in the future. Let us know what % of black to blue you end up with when the coloring is clear. Always curious how the percentages play out in real life. :-) Also curious how the light blue vs. dark blue shows...

Didn't realize they were all young-ins. Keep us posted when your new ones arrive. Are you getting them as chicks?

Curious how well they lay for you? Wondering if there is any production difference between blue/blacks and the buff.

If you crossed blue x blue then 25% is what should be expected. Other crosses result in no black. Was yours a blue x blue cross? Technically weren't suppose to get any black with our cross but now I'm wondering if the person who sent my eggs was less than honest about the parents. Or maybe...

How did the show go? Any good pix to share?

Is this a blue orp? We thought we had blue because the chick fluff was such a silvery charcoal color, but now the wing and shoulder feathers are coming in very black. (The pix don't show the color very well but new feathers are glossy black.) Black orp? Does this mean it is a blue roo perhaps?

Assuming they are part of the pics you posted a few weeks ago? Can you post a pic that shows the size comparison between your mature BR? Would be interesting to see the size and conformation differences (and also see them in their latest glory!)

Blucille - I love it! ;-) Will be even more clever if/when you name his daughter Blucille.

I can tell I am going to have trouble telling the black from the blue unless it is blatantly obvious. I have seen some chicks that are mostly light grey. Not sure if those would be a splash or just a very light blue. Ouch - I think you have more hot days to deal with than we do. How do your...

A breeder sent me the info below. His pics were nice examples for reference so I thought I'd share. (Thanks for your help Kevin!) If your blues are dark like ours it will be harder to distinguish between the blue and black but splash will stand out. The blues will be dark grey with a white...

There is defintely going to be a learning curve for me! How old are they when you can definitely tell they are a blue and not a black if it is questionable? BTW - where in CA are you at?

Too sweet. Wish they could stay this cute for a month or two. Did both of these turn out to be blues? Can't tell with the dark/yellow one.

Yes - have BBS in the incubator. Came to this thread hoping to figure out what colors I might have at hatching. First incubation I've ever done so I hope the learning curve is not so bad that I don't get a few to hatch. Optimism and wishful thinking will hopefully prevail!

Thanks for the update and great pictures! Lucky has a great story. Hoping this does not happen when we hatch. My nerves get the best of me! Lucy is very pretty and the General very dignified. I'm curious if the blacks with the bit of white will keep it or not. I don't recall seeing any Black...
