that is a terrible chicken owner, make me sick. Call the human society. I keep twelve in a nice double insulated coop, just cause people say they do fine does not mean a little comfort for all they give is not in order. My pen is totally warped in winter, but we do keep a small window at the...

How do you heat your coops

I added a heat lamp for babies , to take the edge off the cold, my chickens loved it and produced all winter long. My coop is big enough for 20 hens, there are 8 residing in it and the lamp only took out the sting off bitter cold. I will use it again this winter .

How do you heat your coops

yeah no heat I get it, but I think it's just comon sence to insulate. Drafty cold coops I believe hasten the life of birds. Like my vet said, if people leave there dogs out in the cold that dog suffers, his bones his health. As with small animals. They may run around in the morning but the cold...

Vicki, how wide is your pen? Can you throw over some 2x4s and the a real heavy tarp over that and held down by zip ties ? We did this last year, had to jump up and knock snow off but it lasted. We used a 10x10x10 dog kennel, and just added a heavy duty tarp that was 2 feet longer all the way...

with pen pen totally enclosed your coop should be draft free. That's why many of us enclose the pen, so the wind and snow can not get in. My pen is dry and weather proof so even the coop stays warmer. Best part of covering my pen, even the door to my pen is coved well so I can open and close it...
