Blessed compared to most!
We are sitting on a ticking clock like many, but very rapid response by CFA had kept all on the leash as it were. Though we are packed ready to go 24/7......
We have seen more cold and strong wind with little rain??? Certainly the strangest summer I have ever...
How did you go selling your cockerels?
Think I may be going down that road soon, of a 9 hatched as many as 5 are males for sure..
Peter is reporting higher than average are males:he...........!!!
Hatch to integration.
Saturday 25th Jan was week 7!! .....and decision day.
Ten weeks prior my blue laced wyabdotte went broody so I transfered her to a repurposed dog house I'd erected, drove to Maryborough and bought a mixed dozen gold lace and blue splash eggs.
The eggs were accepted, sadly...
So glad this hen was broody, the 3 silver hens are super aggresive when sitting on eggs, would be awefully protective of chicks, as in full on attack.
Mum is 90% relaxed so chicks are getting quite a bit of attention from the 3yo granddaughter today.. its her first encounter with the chicks...
So here we go.....
Blue lace gold mum hatched under a light bulb when the broody hen she and her siblings were under, up and quit:he.
Since has not been handled. First time mum doing a terrific job.
We have 9 chicks 4- BLS and 5 - GLW out of 12 eggs. 2 eggs stone cold, candle shows no...
Whilst the picture has been enhanced a bit of drama added, fact is that is armageddon personified real time..... so understand the effect it has, and will continue to have for years to come. Devastating for EVERYTHING living in its path and unbelievable for those dealing with the aftermarth.
I finally located Peter he is still going but at a very much reduced level. Not as many breeds
Phone is 03 5461 5139.
Have a mixed dz. of his eggs hatching at this moment. 6 blue splash and 6 gold lace standard.
No rooster.
Had a flock of GL wyandotte hens with a rooster that produced a bunch of chicks. Turned out that half were roosters. My wife hated the crowing so we let all the males go.
Since that got eggs off Peter at Maryborough, he's now off the radar for some reason.
Had 11 hens, now down to...
I don't breed at all and the fella I got my fertile eggs seems to be off the radar.
Roosters are almost impossible to rehome.
Always contactible through BYC
There is a local Kyneton Poultry Club. They have sales in Summer. The folks I have contacted locally do not seem all that commercial...
First off. DO NOT 'NAME' young chooks , bad, bad idea!
Better to wait till you know for sure what you have, and what has to go.
I had 7 hatched by one of my hens. Four young roosters that I could not rehome or kill. Took me a year of torment, fights and feathers to face up to reality...
I have been scouring through the breeds available in Oz. Keep coming back to Wyandotte Fella I visited with in Maryborough had many different breeds, and bantams of all sorts. My originals are LARGE and I guess that has shaped my thinking more than anything. We get snow here, so cold climate...
Hi
I'm in Victoria, well near Mt. Macedon to be precise. Returned after a long absence. Still have one aged GLW going to be 9yo Sept.
Agonising over what to boost the flock back up to 12.
Almost like starting over.
