I start to introduce ours by putting the youngsters in a run with the adults which gives them time to get use to them. In the first week they're only out short periods to avoid chilling. From about three weeks old I'll let them them run with the foster parents but they're closely supervised...
Thank you. They do look like African crosses but I do find geese the most attentive parents. We incubate our eggs but once pairs hear youngsters they are drawn to them. I let our old pair of Toulouse adopt 2 sets of youngsters last year and they were amazing foster parents. Im sure yours...
My word they are adorable little fellows and Im so very pleased for you - what a great result. Also very exciting the you also managed to hatch one of the more problematic eggs and shows its well worth a try instead of giving up on them.
Thank you everybody about your postive comments about...
Wow - more babies and all looking strong and healthy CONGRATULATIONS
You've had a very good result and should be proud of your acheivement - well done.
I'll be interested how the remaining eggs are but so far you've had an excellent hatch rate - I'm very pleased for you
These goslings are coming thick and fast - you're having a great result Its interesting that it appears there are two 'types' of Africans in the USA - here in the UK we only have one which are referred to simply as Africans but I guess they're closest to the Dewlap African in the USA.
Celtic...
Its all going really well for you and the later 2 will probably just need a little more time. Looking forward to waiting for your announcements for the other babies that are on their way
Oh fantastic and sincere CONGRATULATIONS
Looks a fine good sized gosling and will soon start to dry out. All looks promising for the next ones to follow. Once these have hatched then you can concentrate on the later 2 but if the shadows are moving then they're still alive and may well...
All very exciting and I'm waiting for the official birth announcement from you You've done exceptionally well as if I remember corectly these are your first goose eggs A nice breed to choose too as we really like our Africans. Impressive geese that always look in great feather - I think...
Hi - they should be ok for 24 hours as it takes a day for the goslings to dry thoroughly and get on their feet. They're rather wobbly for the first day and prone to spraddle leg though towels will help them. The best product I found was silicone matting which is washable. They seem to get...
Great news that they're now progressing around the egg and not too long before they start to push the egg open once they're about three quarters around. With the other 2 eggs what stage have they reached when you last checked them?
I do like the way hatching eggs keep thier owner's nerves jangled. They all seem to be poised to start rotation in earnest but may rest for a while with the external pip area well enlarged. From anytime now to up to 12 hours they should suddenly make rapid progress around the shell. Try to...
Hi - if its enlarged a hole so you can see the beak then its getting access to air so dont worry. They're not all the same in their progress. When you say the others are rotating how far around their shells have they chipped?
Hi -your news all sounds very promising. Our Dewlaps usually extenally pip and over the next 24 hours enlarge the pip further along. Usually its around 36-40 hours after they first externally pip before they rotate fully and its a nerve racking time. Keep your humidity well up now and keep...
Any update as the shadowing in the air cell should be increasing down the side and front indicating internal pipping is imminent. Best of luck with the eggs as you approach hatching
