I'm very sorry if this thread has caused anyone's birds any harm. I'll see if I can contact the site admin. to have this thread taken down so I don't harm anyone else's birds.
According to the box that I used the suppository only contained: Gelatin, Glycerin, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil Base...
I'm really not sure on the egg withdrawal question. My poor baby wasn't laying because she was so sick. This is afterall, medicine meant for humans, although it would be absorbed rather than ingested if we were to use it on ourselves. I guess a good rule of thumb would be, "if in doubt...
Waysidedesign - Someone suggested to me, earlier in this thread, that the yogurt with the extra live cultures (Activia, etc.) in them were best, but I have not tried them for myself. I was using plain Greek-style yogurt because that's what I always buy for a treat for the girls, so I already...
@ Waysidedesign - Personally, I used the suppositories, cut in thirds, but others here have used the cream and had success. The only reason I used the suppositories instead of the cream was they had fewer ingredients and seemed safer to me. No sense giving a sick hen a bunch of extra chemical...
The hen I treated was about 18 months old. I gave 1/3 of a suppository per dose, for a chick I guess I would try cutting the dose in half? I'm just guessing here.

Oh duh! It never even occurred to me to try the yogurt with extra live cultures. I hope there never is a next time, but if there is I'll have to try that first. You're right, they all enjoy yogurt! As I was syringe feeding my poor sick hen her yogurt, the other girls were jumping up...

I did exactly the same thing. Open her beak and stuff the piece in, follow with a syringe of water or yogurt. If she fought too much, we'd cut the piece in half or quarters and feed a little at a time. Wrapping her in a towel helped, but having my hubby hold her beak open helped even...

Yes, my girl's crop was big and squishy, I've heard many others describe it as water-balloon like, and I think that fits. I didn't notice the "sour" smell at first, just a full squishy crop that was the same each morning as it had been the previous evening. The hen refused to eat or...
After 2 weeks of trying every other sour crop treatment with no signs of improvement, I got desperate and tried something unproven. After learning that sour crop is a form of yeast infection and reading that some others had treated with Clortrimazole (found in Lotrimin and Mycelex) , I decided...
