    Backyard Brahmas!!

Are you sure she's 7 months old? From what I can see in the pic her comb and wattles don't look very developed. Mine will be 24 weeks this week and have much larger and darker combs and wattles. A couple of them have been laying for 2 weeks now.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

One of my buff Brahma laid her first egg this morning!!! They are 22 weeks old today. However, it wasn't fully formed. It was a yolk in only half a shell. Is that normal for a first egg?

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Went out to check on my 21 week old buff girls this morning and they came running over to me as usual. However, the one in front came right up to me and immediately did an egg squat! It was adorable! I hope I get an egg soon! These are my first chickens. I'm so excited! Lol

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Anyway, here are some pics I took this afternoon. They were 15 weeks old on Thursday. #1 : this is the same one I pointed out in the previous pictures. Her face is a little more red because she's worked up from me holding her. #2: this is the one with the weird looking comb that I...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Thank you! I've been wondering if maybe a couple of them are just maturing faster than others. They're hatchery birds so I'm not really sure if the 3 rows of peas apply to them. Because if it does than almost all of them are Roos. Which I really don't think is the case. They don't spar and I...

Thanks! I'll try to get some better pics but it's supposed to storm again all day today. This weather has been driving me nuts!

    Backyard Brahmas!!

I hadn't posted any pics yet because I don't have any good ones. I snapped a couple last night but it was about to storm so I didn't get very far. Here they are anyway. You can see the one in the front to the left has a redder face and larger wattles but they still don't look impressive to me.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Thank you! I'll try to keep a lookout for saddle feathers showing up soon. I don't see any yet. I was convinced one of them (I have 6) was a cockerel early on because he did feather out much more slowly than the others but now I'm not so sure. I'm thinking he's poorly bread. He is hatchery...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

So frustrating! I don't see any of the male feathers on mine which is why I was wondering when they start coming in. Their combs and wattles are also confusing me. None are blatantly obvious cockerels. Thank you for the reply!

    Backyard Brahmas!!

I was wondering what age Brahma cockerels normally get their saddle, hackle, and sickle feathers in? Mine are 15 weeks and I'm still not sure on gender.
