I used to have the foodsaver machine that had 2 pumps and I loved that machine. Wore it out and tried to replace it. The salesman that I talked to admitted that if I was used to 2 pump one, I would not be happy with the ones thaey had for sale now since they were all just a single pump and...

I use the vinegar because it is habit when I can meat based items. Vinegar will remove any fat and grease better than just water according to extention recommendation. I wish I knew what causes the liquid to escape. I have had that happen. Luckily the jars sealed. Just made sure to use...

I made a 1/2 recipe - didn't want to mess with the whole 2 pounds, that is alot of garlic. Wish I would have went with the whole 2 pounds. Try this conversion - but instead of canning it, cook it on low on the stove until the garlic is soft and caramelized. 1 c. garlic 1 1/2 Tablespoon olive...

I made Preserved Garlic on Monday. I will start growing garlic, just so I can make more of this recipe, It is delicious. If you use caramelized garlic for cooking, you gotta try this! Note: I used malt vinegar because I couldn't find sherry vinegar in our little country grocery store. And I...

Thanks for answering the question! :):D👍 That is the answer that I would have given, and what I am going to try. The amount of sugar does seem excessive. I use the recipe on the next page of the book. I started making this for my Mom, she likes rhubarb and Dad refuses to eat anything...

I should mention that I didn't personally see the tomato plants with potatoes on the roots. My sis did post a picture of the "free" tomatoes that volunteered in her garden, so I know that part was true. They only ate them once they were red, so they were tomatoes and not potato fruits. I...

I google your potato "fruit" and found it is poisonous. Don't eat it. "These potato fruit are not edible. More precisely, they are poisonous. They contain high amounts of solanine that can make the eater very ill. " https://www.canr.msu.edu/news/what_are_those_fruit_growing_on_my_potato_plants

They might be tomatoes. My sister had some volunteer tomato plants grow in her garden one year. They didn't have time to work on the garden, so she just let them grow. The tomatoes were OK, not really a great tomato but edible. At the end of the season, she went to rip out the tomato plants...

@Sally PB When I grow potatoes, I will gently dig around the roots to harvest "new potatoes" before the plants are done growing in the fall. By disturbing as few roots as possible, the plant continues to grow and I usually end up with a decent harvest. But I cannot resist sampling before...

I believe there are instructions on-line for using your insta=pot to make distilled water also. Something about attaching a plastic tubing onto the steam vent and then running that into another container. Not having any problems finding distilled water in the stores around here, yet. There are...

I think it would be OK on low. It is just to prevent the beans from splitting when you recook them in something like chili. The website also said adding the salt halfway through cooking is said to help prevent splitting also. I prefer to pressure can beans to have a couple jars at the ready...

You can freeze cooked beans. It is suggested to cook them as low temp as you can to help prevent splitting.

I just bought an electric pressure canner! I am so excited. I will pick it up today. Last week I canned some beef with onions and some chicken chunks. And I used up the last jar of canned pinto beans. It was a long evening of sitting in the kitchen babysitting the canner for over 2 hours...

The Meijer store is on my way home from work - sorta. I have the quick way - 1 mile longer, but less city travel/more interstate so easier/faster; and Alternate #1 way for those bad weather days - through downtown but no high flyover interstate bridges that get icy, windy and nasty in snowy...

@BReeder! Thank you very much!! I needed to buy vinegar today and I looked at the Meijer website - they have the 128 oz jugs for $2.99. I will restock my pantry. I have just recently started to shop at the new local Meijer. It is a huge store, and has a weird (to me) layout, but I will get...

Yeah, that stuff is more expensive than the regular Heinz that I usually buy. I can't believe how expensive vinegar has gotten. I thought $7 per gallon was bad last fall, I just saw it for $14 per gallon on Amazon. Just another way to make it harder not to buy premade junk food.

I've never seen "canning" vinegar. I have always used the standard White Vinegar 5%. I've even used Apple Cidar vinegar - just make sure it is 5%.
