Basic Questions

BS cock .... what is it?
For me BS cock can be Cameo BS cock .... or Midnight BS cock !
BS it's not enough ! a cock is defined by a color + a pattern!

1. If both parents are White Eye, are all the offspring WE?
2. I have read that a hen can not be split to another color. What would you call an IB chick from a BS cock and Cameo hen?
If you say IB I will have to use the little 'thud' guy.

If both parents are double copy White Eye all offspring will be double copy as well, so they would all be White Eye

Dany is correct, we need a color on your BS male. If he is IB BS, and mom is Cameo They will produce no Cameo offspring, all offspring will be IB spit to BS and males only will be spit Cameo. Hens cannot be split to sex-linked colors. If Dad is split Cameo, then they could produce some Cameo offspring in both sexes.

You are the best!

It was the 'Hens can not be split to sex-linked colors' part I was having trouble with. So any IBs produced are called simply IB and only the IB cocks are going to be split Cameo. They have given me a LOT of Cameo chicks this year and some of the older ones I can see barring on the shoulders, (male I presume). And I presume that they are ALL split BS?

Thanks on the WE question, I 'think' the hens are double copy, and I know the cock is. He is my rock star, Rocky the IBBSWE split SP.

I also have a few basic questions!

1. How old should the peachick be before you put him or her in the adult pen?

2. If my peachick is a female can I put her in the same pen as her mom and dad?

3. I figure it is unhealthy and not okay for her dad to breed her since she is his offspring... is that true? I only have the one peacock so he is the father of all the peachicks. I'm assuming what we call "incest" which leads to birth defects could happen to peachicks but maybe I'm wrong. I just need clarification so I don't do anything wrong!

Most of the recommendations I have read say to keep chicks off the dirt for twelve weeks, feed medicated feed for twenty weeks, and medicate the chicks four weeks after putting them on the dirt for cocci and worms. Breeding brother to sister can cause problems and most people will avoid it. Some experienced breeders will when working on mutations or special projects. Breeding son to mother and daughter to father is less risky and done quite often. Housing young with older birds is usually fine except during breeding season when a young male may interfere with the older birds breeding or distract the older cock from doing his duties. Last year I had a clutch of chicks hatch in a breeding pen and all was fine until six weeks old when I lost one to roundworms.
