HI, I will be using this thread to do a history on my chicken experience the to track the birds i hope to use for my chicken projects.
None of the existing Breeds has all the features i want, so i will be working toward creating some.

The rest of the standard i will breed for will be worked out once i have begun the program and done more research on what goes with the existing criterion.
As you can see they all derive from silkie or frilkie - so will be polydactly.

Breed 1
Blue eggs.
Hookless Feathers.
Frizzled
Lav Colour
Bantam
Walnut comb
Comb coulor of Black or purple.
Non tufted.
Non bearded.
Non booted.

Breed 2
Chocolate eggs.
Hookless Feathers.
Frizzled
Black/Blue/Splash Colour
Bantam
Walnut comb
Comb coulor of Black or purple.

Breed 3

Hookless Feathers.

Comb coulor of purple or red

OK

General Backgroud.
In the early 80's i lived of a 250,000 arces property running 46,000 sheep, 150 cattle, various dogs and cats and btewwen 20-30 chooks.
chooks were all hens, and we brought in POL Pullets yearly to keep our numbers up.

The chooks had about and acre of coop, which was in 2 sections, both with water troughs, but feed was just thrown on the ground for them.

I left there in 1996 and got back into chooks in 2014 when we were given a retired hen, Her Blind daughter with a crooked neck, and a rooster.

Next post - pics of chooks form 2014 to current.

Okay So,
My first ever hatch i borrowed an incubator and set 18 eggs.
I got 2 chicks.
After that I actually found out how a hatch is supposed to work.

Most recent hatch. I borrow the same incubator and set 30 eggs.
i will update on that later. for now I am going to go back and tags all the pics in the previous post, then upload some new pics.

OK - so it looks like the post i am up to should be the rundown on my most recent hatch.
i Borrow the same incubator i used last time and place 2 digital thermometers that i had been checking for about a week.
I a total of 30 eggs. 10 from my silkies that had been laying an egg every 2 days for about 2 weeks and had just gone to daily.
12 Purchased eggs made up of 3 Araucana, 3 Dorking,3 Orpington and 3 Sussex cross frizzles.
remaining were random eggs from out at farm - 3 of which were from the EE.

I set all the eggs in the carton.
I candled at around day 5 and couldn't find all the air cells.
Dropped one of the Araucana eggs
Took the eggs out of carton and started hand turning 1 or 3 times daily
candled day 10. marked all air cells.
The Ara egg i dropped has lost all its fluid and started to smell. tossed it
Candled day 14 and put non slips in incubator. made cloth rings to set eggs upright again - no more turning.
tossed 7 more eggs - all clears leaving 22.
Day 18 - started adding water.
Day 20 - first pips. couldn't quite get beaks out of shells. moved eggshell off beaks to allow breathing.
over the next 36 hours did various air cell pips after they piped -
missed doing one and it suffocated in shell.
3 chicks got full assists as the failed to zip correct directions, pipped upside down, mispositioned etc.
after final zips and life checks had 15 chicks in brooder .
3 fully formed chicks dead in shell with yolk fully absorbed.
others were clear.

The hatch should have 2 Dorking, 2 Sussex Cross, 1 Araucana , 2 silkie cross, 2 Easter eggers and remaining mixed Backyard Chickens.
total 15 - pictured are above from before 12 days old.
