My chick, Cas, I thought had pasty butt, but I'm now pretty sure it's the umbilical cord. I really don't know and either way it's bugging her. She's now 7 days old so I thought the cord would come off... Please help!

The red oval is where her tail is. We wetted it down in warm (but not too warm) running water

Honestly, I'm not sure, but maybe other more experienced peeps can help. Watch her closely for 10 or 15 minutes. Do you see her poop? If so, you don't have anything to worry about...even if that is poop, as long as she can pass fecal matter, she'll be fine.

I hope others can help more!

If the vent is clear of any dried poop then she is fine. Pasty butt is when there is so much dried poop covering the vent (butt hole) that they can not poop anymore. So, I am assuming that is her butt hole right below the red oval...if so, then she is completely fine.

That's her umbilical cord. I've had several with it, and it's perfectly normal...sometimes it takes a LONG time to fall off. The only thing I'd worry about is if other chicks are pecking in it. She's not got pasty butt, and there's nothing to worry about :)

Okay, that sounded weird...when I said 'I've had several with it' I didn't mean several with an umbilical cord...ALL Chicks have an umbilical cord...I meant several with one that took awhile to fall off

Haha! I get what you mean, Madam Poofy Brow! Thank you so much! I'll be sure to extra attention to her in case something changes! Here's a better picture of my baby too:
