Hi all! I'm living in NW AZ off the grid on 80 acres.
I'm also a retired BBQ restaurant owner, and am full of tips on the subject.
I've closed the restaurant, and have decided to get back into chickens for the third time. I'm not a noob, but still consider myself a novice.
We had no internet the first times, and went by book or words of advice.
This time I'm going to take it a bit more seriously.

The coop has been rebuilt after sitting for 8 years, and a whole new run is fenced and in place. I'm probably going to take a whack at the free range thing this time.

Sunday morning we will be picking up 8-10 ladies and one of those crowing things, at approx 8 weeks old.

I love forums and posting pics, so beware!

so glad you have joined us.

And congrats on your retirement, no personal experience, but know folks who have owned or run restaurants and it is a hectic life.

Would love to get BBQ tips and recipes and see pics of your new flock and refurbished coop.

Enjoy the forums.

Hi. Saw you on Granny's thread. Hope you join in. Kind of a wild bunch there, but like to have fun and laugh. Pictures are always welcome. Regarding feeding chickens fruit, nothing wrong with it except too much will make them fat and unhealthy. Moderation is good. Leafy greens are very good for them. Mine love kale. Probably a little scarce where you are.

Well howdy!

Good on ya! No one will get this joke from Granny's thread but what was your name again? So Hi Joe. NWAZ. near Kingman or do you live where you can grow something? Can't grow much here due to drought and H20 restrictions. I throw a flake of fresh alfalfa out for my gals. Good protein. If you're off grid, and have time, and if you have no good bugs for free range, you might want to give a go at raising meal worms for your flock. Great thread here on BYC. Best of luck to you!

I live in the hills above a blink and miss it called Wikieup.
We have 3 gardens right now, and have squash of all varieties coming out the keister.
We have our own well that has never let us down. We also have melons, beans, and god only knows what the wife has planted. My fridge overflows.
The girls have only been in the coop 2 days. I figger I'll give them a week or two before I start to free range. We have tons of ants for them to eat, if they like them.
Otherwise, I'm sure they'll stay packed with other things.
