So I am fairly new to raising chickens but just love it! We have an issue I am sure has been addressed here but i just can't seem to find it. Sooooooo our lovely Ms. Red was sitting happy happy on 6 eggs..... then about 4 days later I see 7! Well our naughty Ms. Red stole Miss Speckles egg and insists on telling us it is her own!!! Move forward 21 days... 4 sweet chicks hatched and are doing FAB. About 24 hours later Ms. Red decides she is done sitting on eggs... I have an incubator and though heck fire let's just pop that baby in the chick oven for a bit (I honestly thought she had been off the egg too long and really the incubator was a "Hail Mary" It's been 3 days since the 4 chicks hatched I began to think the lone little egg in the bator was long gone so before i disposed of the egg I though let's float test this for fun.... Guess what? That little lone egg started to wiggle YIKES!!! what should I do now? This little thang, if it keeps trucking and hatches will be about a week younger than the others......

Are you planning to reintroduce all the chicks back to the broody?

If your going to brood some of them inside then the week behind chick (counting it before it hatches) will be fine. If reintroducing all back to broody it may not be accepted by her. It's a chance you'll have to take.

When allowing birds to go broody it's best to mark the eggs you are going to let them incubate. That way when they steal other eggs to add to their clutch you can take them away and eat before they start to incubate. If I've a bird go broody and let them sit on eggs I take the eggs away every day until I have the ones I want to have her set. Mark them and put all under her at once.

Thank you for your reply Egghead_Jr. :) We are certainly learning everyday! I think I should've brought the 4 chicks inside and then introduced the younger one to the lil's when it hatches BUT the 4 chicks are with mama and doing really well. YIKES Soooo I now have the possibility of having one chick a week younger. Ugh! Do you think it is too late to bring the 4 chicks inside and then introduce the 5th when hatched? I truly appreciate the help and information everyone here has!
