My Quail were born August 16th seems to be losing quite a few feathers especially on their head for ones that are so young and I have not had a single egg even though they are now 8 weeks old. They are being fed high protein made for quail no difficulties with eating and drinking. I live in Ontario so we are now getting cold weather brought them back into the house and they are housed in a very large pen with lots of light. I can't keep them in the house as they stink and I only use the pen as a brooder normally. This is my first try with quail
Question is about the lose of feathers for birds so young only one male 12 female
how cold of weather can they withstand

What kind of quail? The feather lose could they possibly be jumping up and hitting their heads? They are notorious for this.If you planned on leaving them outside year round, you can't really do it now as you have brought them inside.
In N.H.,Tony.

I had a similar incident with my young chicks. I'm pretty sure it was caused from malnutrition so the father and the chicks would eat their own feathers. But if you're feeding them a high protein feed it can't be this. Maybe stress?
