Chic chicks

So I have new cats. They are evil one ate a baby chick. IDK who yet.
My last cats only looked at them and didn't touch.

The cats are not evil....... You can see by my pix that I have plenty.. When I had baby chicks, , HAD TO KEEP THE CATS AWAY FROM THEM.. When chickens grew up some, the cats would not bother them. ALL CATS THINK OF BABY CHICKS AS UNCOOKED CHICKEN NUGGETS.

Sorry to hear this. Keep them lil chicks safe.
Yes, I know there are exceptions and there are cats that attack adult chickens, but for the most part, your pet cats are not such.

Cooked oatmeal is more nutritious, but of course my chickens prefer it uncooked and thrown in with their regular feed.Oh and they love rasins on top. The baby chicks think a hard boiled egg (mashed up and in an old Oreo yogurt lid) is to stand on to get a better position to get to their food. As opposed to using one of the other holes to get their food out of the feeder. So the hens can have that tonight as well as some other treats.

Berries are good, especially strawberries. Chickens love them. Unless they are mine and they fling them across the coop. Raisins are these ladies favorite treat after mealworms and grubs.

feathering out nicely. Just under their wings and heads need feathers. Hurry up and you can go outside.

So need a big fenced in yard. I'd love to just let these chicks wander all over instead of being stuck in a run. They don't mind. But I do. I want them to be able to eat more bugs they catch instead of catching them for them or buying them live crickets.

Before chickens . (that was a long long time ago) we used to see all kind of creepy crawlers outside in that yard. (centipedes, sow bugs, earwigs, etc.) After chickens.................. hardly ever see anything. The earth worms are still available at night.

I dont have a large yard and I dont want all the neighbors' animals trying to come eat them. I rent so I can't put up a fence. And it's a sellers time for houses around here. Not buyers. Buyers get the bad end of the deal. Pay too much and not worth it.

Monique has been very vocal about everything lately. She knocks over her water and starts in. Silly bird don't knock it over and you have water. She was fed at 5:30 and by 9:30 she's objecting to having not been given what SHE wanted. She wanted fruit and veggies. So she carried on like she hadn't been fed all day (liar) until I got her some. They are prissy and none will peck at things. I read somewhere to give chickens cucumber because it has so much water in it. Just throw in the whole thing, they will peck at it and eat it. Nope. They want it cut into small pieces or they will throw it or kick it and bury it.
Did I mention she is LOUD? Because she is. The others will sometimes cluck but not half as loud as her.
