my silkie hatched out eggs in June. I have never had a rooster but out of three eggs one is rooster. They are now 20 1/2 weeks old and i'm wondering when i'll begin to hear him crow? i know all chickens are different but what is the average age a roo will crow? he is an easter egger

It varies from bird to bird. Most of my bantam roosters start crowing at 8 weeks old, but some of them wait until they are about 4 months old. Larger breeds of chicken (such as your Easter Egger) may start crowing at 5 months or later. If you have any other roosters in your flock, young roosters may not crow at all because they are subordinate to the dominant rooster.

I had one of my roosters first crow at 9 weeks old. We have two older roosters that have been crowing since before this guy hatched and he heard them crowing everyday, so I'm not really surprised that he started when he did.

so i guess (since i can't have roosters in the city) i am lucky he is waiting until he is older hahaha.....he isn't mating either. no he is our only rooster

We had one start around 20 weeks (lavender orp) and he was so dominant he stalled the seconD rooster's maturity. Our dogs killed the dominant rooster, and 4 weeks later, at about 6.5 months old, beta roo has begun crowing! He's also a lavender orp, so big breed! And he sounds ridiculous!
