It's cold outside.

Here in NW Minnesota, just below Canada, we experience cold air that registers in the -40° range, with winds hawking at better than 30-40 mph. My RPT roost in the coop as youngsters, but as adults they choose to stay outside. They have had any problems dealing with this cold winter air.

Our remaining 3 turkeys (started off with 19, ended up with 16 come Tday and we processed 13 right before so left with 3 - to make the next round in theory) have a huge run and a large coop to hang out in when not outside - the coop being warmer (though not super warm - sometimes it doesn't stay above freezing). when it's chilly outside those turkeys definitely find their way in to the warmth.... they aren't stupid!
