I am interested in raising quail eventually and I was wondering where you can buy some online with the minimum being less than 50 or 100 (I only want 10-25). If you have any suggestions for where to buy it I would be very appreciative!!! I live in SC.

I don't have the answer for you but you could always email or call a hatchery and see if they wouldn't sell a smaller amount. Sure it will cost a bit more if they do, but might be worth contacting them.

Also maybe you can find someone who will take what you don't want.

I use to hunt them here when there was Quail in our area. It was a fun game to hunt and good eating too. I have a lot of fond memories of hunting for them.

At the later part of the 70's we had 2 real hard winters and a couple blizzards that wiped the quails out here. New homes being built in the country and farms being sold along with fence lines being tore out well, they never could make a come back.

Now where I live we have 1 male that comes around 1 time a year for a couple days then he's gone.

Many years ago a family from Cleveland, who came out to our place to hunt, raised and released a big covey of Quail on our property. Funny and sad at the same time. When released they all took off flying and not one stayed on our property.

Good luck!

I am just wondering what chuckars are good for? Just meat? And what breed of quail lay the best?

They are good to eat,and are 2/3 the size of a pheasant. They are beautiful birds. They say they can be tamed like chickens, let them out of pen and herd them back in at night.Im not quite ready to try that.I have sold some for 8.00 ea and have seen them for 10.00 ea,I bought 30 from murry mac murry day old for 56.00 including shipping was $72.00.Price must change during year, now they want $100.00 for 25 eggs.I saw a web sight last night that had them for $2.60 ea,and a place that sold gambel and California eggs,30 for 61.00 or mixed.I have hunted it for hours tonight and cant find it.I go out in cage and just sit with them. They are a colony bird, where 1 goes they all go like ducks. They say you cant put a bird from a different coloney as they will kill it.Im looking forward to mine starting laying

My texas a and m,s start laying at 4 weeks.I am in Pensacola fla.I got them as chicks, since last sept. I hatched about 60 with just 3 hens.Mine lay about 13 a day,as most birds are very small. They say they are all white meat.I let my son eat them.I have been getting close to 100 eggs a week and sell them to vietnease friends stor. They boil them.My son made a olmet and it took 36 eggs. They just quit laying yesterday.I just read that they are a white pharoh quail which I didn't know.Sorry for my typing,i can barely see,old age comes on quick,i have cataracts but insurance says they have to get worse before removing.
