Hands on hatching and help

<sigh> Why don't we have a "slapping forehead" smiley? I keep forgetting to do that. Been so busy here - get Kendra and Katie at 5 - 5:30 am, so at 4:30 I'm usually up vacuuming and mopping the floors. Then after that my day gets busy!

You know I'm teasing. You make me tired just reading all you do. But those gals are worth it!

I think I'm still very happy with the boy/girt ratio, Amy - got 5 girls and 2 boys, (Q-Tip and Mr. Zoo) and unless any of the neighbors object to the sounds of a Kazoo band a couple of times a day it's all good!
I ended up with 7 girls and 4 boys, unless there's surprises..lol it actually was 8/4 if you count my beautiful girl I lost.
x2! Did you set any more eggs? Where's the pics woman?? :p
Me? Gosh no. Not until I replace the bator. I still have these dam guineas here. If he doesn't get up here and get them I'm going to sell them myself.

I ended up with too many chocolate boys too. Hatched 11, lost one (unknown disappearance). 6 boys, 4 girls left.

And I was gonna ask if they had picked up the guineas, but thought maybe I just missed it. I thought you were going to do another set of them, but I don't blame you!

Nope that was the last. Even if it wasn't planned to be last after all the temp trouble, I would quit...lol Between him having medical problems and 2/3 of his kids having pneumonia now, I have no idea when he'll come get them.

What should I set my humidity for hatch with these silkies? Is humidity higher then too? I have it at 65 now but then got to thinking....

Same as you normally would. I prefer 70-75% but that's cause I'm so handsy...lol

Lmao. I plan on raising it once they start internally pipping lol I'll be checking tonight. :)

It's funny you say that. I just ordered some eggs from ruby and they arrived in great condition and I'm in california! These other eggs came from Florida. I actually get alot of my eggs from Florida now that I think about it...

Wow, that's a pretty banged up box. But that goes to show how much double boxing can help. I was/am interested in eggs from an amazing breeder but she is on the other side of the country and the eggs are very, very expensive...I asked and she does NOT double box. Which makes me extremely nervous and your pic is the exact reason why! I'll keep my :fl crossed for your eggs!
All the shipped eggs I have gotten from Florida did horrible!! I think it's the Jacksonville hub because all of the shipped eggs I got from Georgia did amazing!

So I live in Savannah Ga. If I get lucky and intercept my packages so they don't go to Jacksonville they are excellent!!! The Jacksonville hub is the worst! That's where I have terrible hatch rates after they have been shipped from there. So I recommend intercepting your package so it does not go through hub if at all possible that way you would have a better chance. At hatching chicks!!!

On a side note....my Brucie girl ended up with 5 eggs in lock down. 2 died mid zip.....not sure why. When I broke them open they were in the correct position. One was a day 18 quitter, and one hatched and one has just pipped. So..why would those die midzip? Makes no sense to me. Also..I am planning on taking the chicks and brooding them myself. How long would it take for Bruce to start laying again?

Thanks everyone for helping out!!

Well put our silkies from @RubyNala97 into lockdown tonight. It's day 17 but my incubator runs warm so I wanted to make sure they have enough time to turn. Hatch day should be this friday. Can't wait!

Awesome!! Yeah, I run a little hotter too and usually get action early but then it drags on till day 22. Please post updates!!

I always hatch at 75%. But that's just what works best for me.

I gotta ask...how do you intercept a package so it does not go through certain hubs??

It is just so amazing....

Im really naughty... I've been candling twice a day.... but only for like two seconds and the temperature hardly drops.... and only three eggs to candle so it shouldn't hurt them

It's so hard not to candle, isn't it?!? I say if they are local eggs, then candle away!! :D
