Leaving Pop Door Open Overnight

I keep mine open but my run is Fort Knox. The only thing that has ever gotten in is a snake and a pop door wouldn't have kept it out. Part of the reason is because I go to work at 5pm and get home at about 7am. So I'm just not home to put them up when it gets dark. But it works for me.
 
if you believe it is safe then you can leave it open, mine no matter how good it is I don't want to risk having something kill my girls plus the neighbor dog can get through anything it gets really nasty and there is nothing I can do about it except lock my girls up.
 
I leave mine open but it's also fortnox. It's a 12' x 12' covered run wrapped in hardware cloth with a 24" deep concrete footing, inside a 50' x 100' x 6'high fence with 4 hot wires around that. I also have a pair of labs that patrol outside the perimeter.

Our chicken pop door is open 24/7 except when the temps dropped to single digits. The run is pretty much secured so is the coop.:tongue
 
As long as your run is well protected from predators, there's not any reason why you can't leave the pop door open, unless snow and rain would be wind driven into the coop.
 
Mine is open 24/7. Our run is as predator proof as humanly possible, and we make frequent checks all the way around it to make sure that it stays that way. If we see something that looks like it might be a weak spot beginning, it gets fixed. If we see any sign that predators have been around, we watch that spot extra carefully. The moment I start to believe that my run is totally predator-proof, that's the moment some critter will find a flaw and exploit it. My run is only as good as the care we take of it. I told Ken when we built it that I wanted Fort Knox out there. But even Fort Knox has guards and secure maintenance!
